    Nazarene roll call

I'm Catholic, but I study theology through the Nazarene Theological College, and I'm a big fan of John Wesley. So don't hold it against me.

For those who came to AC/EC from other denominations

I came to the Anglican Church from an open "Plymouth" brethren assembly. My conversion came via a study of Eastern Orthodoxy, but Anglican Catholicism was ultimately a better fit. Roman Catholicism didn't even cross my mind until I had learned about the Anglican expression of catholicism...

Advice on alternative to Daily Office

I try to use a combination of the Coptic Agpia (I found an English translation of this gem for 50c at a local second-hand bookstore), with daily Catholic Mass readings.

    What Are you reading?

We should share some choice quotes from what we read. So far I've come across these gems: "I am not quite prepared to reduce the whole of religious experience to human projection, though much of it clearly is. I am haunted by the strangeness of the universe, by its sacredness... I am not...

    Looking For Doctrinally Safe Church

    Biblical Christianity is not man-made?

    So what denomination are you?

Anglican with Quaker and Catholic leanings, who usually worships with Lutherans (including my wife); "saved" and baptized at a so-called "Plymouth" brethren assembly, and studied theology at a Nazarene (i.e. Wesleyan) theological college.

    Old Catholic

Wasn't exactly asking for help, but I appreciate your courtesy. I have no illusions that I'll find "a perfect fit", and at the risk of sounding rather cliché, if I do find a perfect church then I'd better stay away.

    What Are you reading?

At the moment, "Doubts and Loves: What is Left of Christianity" by Richard Holloway.

    Looking For Doctrinally Safe Church

Sounds like the open Christian brethren (i.e. so-called "Plymouth" brethren) might be a good fit for you. As a loose fellowship of nondenominational churches that share certain traits in common, they often go under names like "Community Church", "Christian Church", "Christian assembly", "Gospel...

    Old Catholic

Sorry to confuse you. To add to that confusion, I actually started in a Christian brethren assembly as a teenager; was drawn during university to Anglo-Catholicism (Forward in Faith/TAC - i.e. just inside and later (as part of the same community) just outside the official Anglican Communion)...

    Old Catholic

Eastside of Brisbane. What am I looking for? Same things as many of us: God, peace, contentment, something worthwhile to live and strive for; in a Church I appreciate an inspiring liturgy, a thoughtful sermon, room and freedom to kneel, genuflect, and cross my cares away :crossrc:; warm...

    Old Catholic

Or the Australian equivalent, the Anglican Church of Australia. There are none in our immediate vicinity, but there are options in surrounding suburbs.

    Old Catholic

Another Catholic-minded former Anglican here seeking a spiritual home. Somehow my wife and I landed in a Lutheran church, and while the (albeit watered-down) sacramental worship sustained me for a while, there was no escaping the Sola Scriptura theology and teaching. We've moved across town...

    Becoming a liberal

My journey meanders along the following trajectory: Simple childhood faith --> fundamentalist YECist teenager --> conservative, broadly evangelical university student --> traditional Anglo-Catholic --> progressive Anglican catholic with Quaker and agnostic tendencies Beginning with a simple...

    Brian Mclaren

Brian McLaren has been extremely influential on my theological outlook, and I have appreciated each of his books that I've read so far. I can certainly relate to his faith journey, with roots in the Christian brethren assemblies, journey toward broader evangelicalism (in his case charismatic)...

Do you identify with a particular denomination?

I identify most strongly with Anglicanism and Quakerism, although I tend to worship most often in a Lutheran church these days. I have a background in evangelicalism and traditional Anglo-Catholicism.

    Good Books you have read

Some good recent reads have been "Hannah's Child: A Theologian's Memoir" by Stanley Hauerwas, "The Heart of Christianity" by Marcus Borg, and "The Whisper of Spirit" by Australian Catholic theologian Antony Campbell.

Red Bull mocks Jesus, thats ok but?

I reckon there's more important things in this world to be offended about than a silly little ad. Not even a blip on the radar...

    Richy Dawkins the Agnostic???

As a believer, I am quite comfortable with the descriptor "Christian agnostic"; similarly, Dawkins has admitted that he cannot know for sure that there is no God, god or gods - he just doesn't believe in such beings. The theist - atheist divide is usually in terms of faith or believe; the...

    This will come ...

Whether along the path of Anglicanism, or that of another branch of the holy catholic church, the closer we draw to our Lord Jesus the Christ, the closer we draw each to another in love and fellowship. Wherever the spirit dwells within the hearts of believers, wherever Christ is received in...
