Why we don't have women as priests (Moved from TAW)

Wait, so you used to be Orthodox? I thought you were someone just looking to learn about Orthodoxy (and argue while you were at it :P). Then why are you here? And this is an honest question, not a veiled "you shouldn't be here". If you don't like the church or what it teaches, then what are...

Why we don't have women as priests (Moved from TAW)

There must be a limit on multiquote or else I didn't do it right because half of the ones I selected did not show up below. Please know that I read and appreciated all contributions. I think you get the gold star for today, G. I am going to quote quite a bit of this. Sending that...

Why we don't have women as priests (Moved from TAW)

Thanks to everyone for posting. I have comments on several posts but will have to do that later as I am getting ready for work. A quick question: my acquaintance is eager to talk to other men who have been in his position - looking seriously at the church, but whose wife has serious...

Why we don't have women as priests (Moved from TAW)

Right. It doesn't. But explaining this to a progressive Protestant who is used to women being "priestesses" and such is proving difficult for me.

Why we don't have women as priests (Moved from TAW)

Hello all, Just looking for some help with resources. I met a guy who is interested in the church, but his wife isn't for the main reason of not wanting to be a part of something that "discriminates against women". We've been emailing back and forth a little bit about it and I wrote what I...

is there room in the Orthodox Church for liberals?

I think your best bet is to continue talking with your priest, build relationship there, and continue to turn to him for whatever you need spiritually. These are not uncomplicated issues you have brought up. To give a simple answer to your question, yes, there is room in the Orthodox church...

    I hate the world

Same. I deleted it spring 2010 because I think Zuckerberg is a weasel. He has NO interest in protecting anyone's privacy, just padding his pocketbook.

    I hate the world

Bah ha! Funny. I've missed you. Hope you and wife and kiddo are all doing well. I once talked to a very wise and holy monk about something of a similar ilk, feeling very upset. He told me, "We are all dust. You are dust, they are dust." Well, and there was more, but I can't remember it...

Bishops' kidnapper surrounded by Kurdish fighters

Oh wow. So they're surrounded by the fighters... could you tell us a little more what the Greek site says? I've been feeling so emotional about the capture of these bishops.... I pray to God they are safe soon.

    Blantant Media Bias

I can't even stand to watch the news anymore, other than the local news to get the weather (snow in May? woohoo!) It's revolting what they choose to play up and what they choose to ignore. There is no such thing as real unbiased journalism anymore.

I bought an ABAYA! Don't laugh.

Somewhat OT, but I really like those shelves in the background... could use some in a brown for an area in my basement. Where'd they come from? :)

    Incredible to absurd....

There is some crazy stuff out there. IMO opinion it has more to do with the breakdown of the family than anything. It's depressing to think about, and I know it's difficult to deal with on a day to day basis. Thank you for what you do - you never know whose life you're touching. There are...

    Prayers for my Son

Poor little guy! Did he have a shoulder dystocia; is that how he became oxygen deprived? Birth is so unpredictable and a low risk situation can become high risk in an instant. I'm sure this has been so scary and stressful for you guys. I pray he makes a full recovery and is home with you soon.

Catechumen-friendly churches in the DC Metro area

St. Gregory the Great Orthodox Church — A Western Rite Congregation of the Antiochian Archdiocese in Washington, DC Hey! I think this was the one. I was thinking it was named after St. Gregory. Looks like they have their own building now. If you hate going into DC, though, you...
