    Thr jihad against the textbooks

I would also like to see those quotes of Lewis in full context, without the ellipses. In light of your recent posts on Lewis, I think I'm pretty safe... ;)

Thomson and Steinberg's, or Shivani's? We don't know.

    Thr jihad against the textbooks

In one post, you bring us the vengeance of Thomson and Steinberg (accusing Lewis of supporting OBL) and in the very next post you present the politically correct liberal Anis Shivani, condeming him as anti-Muslim! :D So which is it, gunny? Do you agree with the conservative argument...

    Thr jihad against the textbooks

Goodness! Looks like Lewis is being criticised by the liberals and the conservatives. Anis Shivani condemns him as anti-Muslim, while Thomson and Steinberg condemn him as an OBL apologist! :D

    Thr jihad against the textbooks

I think the date on your school primer tells the entire story all by itself,

Exceptional. Thanks for the link, Panda. (And from the Beeb, no less! My default news source.) As you say - right on cue.

    Thr jihad against the textbooks

The article mentions Bernard Lewis - a leading Orientalist from Princeton University. I would go so far as to call him a world authority on the history of the Islamic ME. I recently had the pleasure of reading Lewis' exceptional work, Western Impact and Middle Eastern Response. It is worthy...

Me-What's the real reason I oppose war?

Both sides are guilty of various atrocities. That's a no-brainer. The essential difference between the two is that the Israelis have a right to be there, while the Palestinians are simply trying to steal someone else's land, using terrorism to get what they want and propaganda to buy foreign...

Me-What's the real reason I oppose war?

It is a bit strange that I didn't get answers to any of my questions. Fortunately, the new rules do not prevent me from asking them again. Which is why I'm bumping this thread.

    Eliminating the dissenters.

The UN can't do it without a majority vote. That's the problem with doing things by the book - it doesn't always work. But at least you have the satisfaction of knowing - at the end of the day - that you followed a democratic process.

    Anyone else notice?

blindfaith - we do have earthquakes down here, but I've never experienced one. Usually we just get droughts, floods and bushfires. :(

France - What's the Real Reason They Strongly Oppose War?

It's also worth bearing in mind the fact that 30 years is a very short timeframe for producing viable alternative fuel systems. The 20th Century came and went without providing a realistic solution to the oil problem. Even if we say (just for the sake of the argument) that they didn't start...

France - What's the Real Reason They Strongly Oppose War?

blindfaith - LOL, that's cool. The important thing to remember, of course, is that I've been saying this all along.

Jerry and Panda - thanks, and you're welcome. I, too, would like to see this thread pinned to the board. :)

Teen who received the wrong transplant

Thanks for your kind words, blindfaith. Yes, I heard about the Mexican girl on the radio during my drive to work this morning. The poor little lass! Her parents have refused to take her off life support, arguing that they want a second opinion. We can only imagine how they...

*wince* A root canal is bad enough - but with an earthquake!? Yikes!

Teen who received the wrong transplant

In my experience (which is admittedly limited) vets are wonderful people. When I lived in Tasmania, our local vet was this weird Hungarian dude called Dr Toth. He had an extraordinarily thick accent, spoke about 5 languages, and always reeked of antiseptic. But he was absolutely brilliant...
