can I ask why do presyterians etc think baptism is sprinkling?

I'd like to say something else about this. It is easy for us, in this time to feel that certain ideas are very clear in scripture that actually are not all that clear. Take, for example, the doctrine of The Trinity. Most Christians today are comfortable with it. When we read scripture we see it...

can I ask why do presyterians etc think baptism is sprinkling?

Albion, You're puting words in my mouth. As all Anglicans do, I place primary authority on Holy Scripture. You may have noticed, not all Christians, not even all Anglicans agree on how to interpret Scripture. And then discussion begins and various human authorities are brought into the picture...

can I ask why do presyterians etc think baptism is sprinkling?

MaryOfOxford, You make some great points. I agree, more Christians should be reading the early writings. I purchased a 39 volume ancient commentary that quotes the church fathers and use it weekly. Wonderful resource. The problem is that not all Christians are willing to use the fathers to...

can I ask why do presyterians etc think baptism is sprinkling?

At the ready, You said: "My overall point is that baptism by immersion isn't the ONLY way to do it, but that the sensate nature of it and how it correlates to its symbolism, and how it imitates how Christ himself was baptized and follows early tradition, make it, I believe perhaps the best...

can I ask why do presyterians etc think baptism is sprinkling?

At the ready, Immersion is not always available. A valid baptism is just that, a valid baptism. One method does not produce a result superior to another. So if, like in my case, a person was baptised by pouring, that baptism is just as effective as one done by immersion. I'm not a Greek...

    Strange Experience with Jehovah's Witnesses

In the third century St Athanasius put this question to the heritic, Arius, who also denied the divinity of Christ. He asked Arius, 'does salvation come from God or from man?' Of course, man cannot be savior, only God. So is Jesus the savior? Arius could not answer, neither can JWs.

    Socialism vs. Capitalism

That has to be one of the most rediculous pair of statements I have ever seen. Which communist authority allows freedom of religion? Which agrees that a persons value is inate due to his being created in God's image. Which does not think that your greatest value is you use to the state...

    Eucharist - every service?

Eucharist - every service? Should we share the bread and the wine at every church service we go to? Is a church service rendered null and void if we do not share the bread and the wine? There are reasons why not to have Communion at every service, the absence of a priest being a common one...

can I ask why do presyterians etc think baptism is sprinkling?

I'm pretty sure its always been an option in RCC and they still are sprinkling. I'm in an Anglican CHurch and its always been an option there too. For RCC, Anglican and alot of others the only requirements of a valid baptism is that it is done with water and in the name of the Father, the Son...

Baptized at birth, but strayed from the path..

Hello Rick, It is a rite, actually a sacrament in some churches, where a person who was baptized as an infant makes an adult decision to to live as a Christian. As baptism replaced circumcision confirmation replaces bar and bat mitzvah.

Any Denominations that believe Jesus was not god, but was sent by god?

Don't look for a denomination that aligns with your beliefs. Look fo one that teaches the truth and make your beliefs align with the truth. The vast majority of belivers in the last two millenia are not wrong.

can I ask why do presyterians etc think baptism is sprinkling?

How long is the Church going to go around and around on this? Nowhere does the Bible command immersion. Nowhere in the Bible does it say one must "be saved" or say that one "is saved" to be baptized. Nowhere does is say you have to feel baptized or look baptized. Come on folks. Why are we...

Having a kid with someone else than your husband - does God hate it?

God does not approve of sex outside marriage. It is a sin, a mistake. That is a pretty basic part of Christian theology. Your sin was a mistake, your son however is not a mistake, he is a valuable child of God Another basic part is that God forgives when we repent. Every one of us is a sinner...

    Socialism vs. Capitalism

Jews and Christians share the view that a man has inherent dignity and worth due to the fact that he was created in God's image. In socialism/Marxism and some of the philosophies lad led to it a mans worth is what he can provide the State. Essentially men are slaves of the state. We can debate...

Baptized at birth, but strayed from the path..

Mediaeval, Yes, that is another good ref, tnx. I had a hard time with this at one time too. The important factors for me were the connection to circumcision and God's promise to Abraham and the significance of the early Church. Nobody reads history anymore. God Bless all, Vince

"Yes I do KJV and ESV. And I don't just rely on my own natural understanding because the Spirit gives me understanding when I read the Bible (John 14:26)." Beware of personal revalation. This is how we wound up with 25,000 plus denomnations. They all start with somone reading the Bible and...
