My Best Friend Just "Came Out" and I Don't Know What to Do

I agree. My brother and I had a fairly decent relationship for the past four or five years, then one day he calls me out of the blue and demands that I accept his homosexuality. I gave him my opinion and then gave him the gospel. We haven't talked since.

My Best Friend Just "Came Out" and I Don't Know What to Do

I feel your pain. My brother came out as a homosexual a few years ago. I have shared the gospel with him and he even considers himself a Christian, however, he has become more and more aggressive about his beliefs over the years. I let him know that I held the biblical position on homosexuality...

    Catholic with Evolution Questions!

This is a question about epistemology. I'm a geologist by trade, so my vocation requires me to deal with theories that require an Old Earth. I have to say, when you look at the evidence from a scientific naturalist standpoint, the evidence for an Old Earth is quite convincing and the evidence...

    Differences between Lutheranism and Calvinism?

How do you know that the objective fact of his death is good enough for you? You may have false faith and not be one of the elect. For the Lutheran, because of the doctrine of Universal Atonement, you know that Christ died for you. You also know that your faith is saving faith.

    Differences between Lutheranism and Calvinism?

My problem with Calvinism is that it will always have you looking inward for assurance of your salvation. Lutheranism has you looking outward, at the cross, at the sacraments. It is objective, whereas Calvinism is subjective.

    Very interesting, Mediaeval.

    two frames of mind

This is why the doctrine of Objective Justification is such a blessing. Jesus has already done everything. Look to the Cross. It was there where he took upon your sin and buried it. It is such a great comfort.

    Former Charismatic

Former ELCA, former atheist, now confessional Lutheran. I'm loving it!

    Prayer

I recently switched to the LCMS from the ELCA. Even though they are both 'Lutheran' I think they have a bigger gulf between them then conservative Baptists and confessional Lutherans do. I'm loving it so far.

    Personal Sin

We all persist in sin. Consistently. Do you love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul consistently every day without fail? Live a life of repentance. We all have our little pet sins that we commit thinking 'well, Jesus will forgive this one.' That is a grave...

Jonathan Fisk, youtube, and many other things

Amen, brother. Lutherans should take pride in being Lutherans. When you see all the heresy that goes on in Evangelicalism, I don't know why anyone would want to be like them.

The Mass is the most horrible abomination?

There is a different conception of the mass between Catholics and Lutherans. For Lutherans the divine service is where we receive gifts from God, it is not something that we do for God.

The God Whisperers can also take a long time to get to theological discussion. If they stuck to talking theology their show would be among my favorites. Instead they'll spend 40 minutes out of a 60 minute show talking about bacon. It's their show, so that's their right. However, it does kind of...

    Calvinism

I was thinking last night about what bothered me so much about Calvinism and I think I nailed it down. Luther (along with Augustine) thought that a person who had faith and then lost their faith, still had saving faith during their time as a Christian. Calvin thought that a person who had faith...

    Differences between Lutheranism and Calvinism?

Why would you lie to yourself to become a Calvinist-Lutheran. If you believe in Calvinist theology, just be a Calvinist. Why play word games to justify your belief in limited atonement? I guess this is a big thorn in my paw, because I believe that limited atonement clearly contradicts scripture...

Jonathan Fisk, youtube, and many other things

'Issues Etc.' is the best radio show ever. If you ever are wondering about a topic even tangentially related to Christianity, they likely have an episode on it. Great guests. Great hosts. Christ centered. Cross focused. 'Fighting for the Faith' is a tad bit annoying IMHO. I think its because...

    Lutheran Books to Read

Religious Bodies of America by F.E. Mayer. Great book that goes through most religious bodies from a Lutheran perspective.

    Calvinism

I feel that I understand the Lutheran position on predestination pretty well. My problem is with Limited Atonement. Whenever I argue with Calvinists about this I'll bring up verses that say that Christ died for all, and they will always respond that 'all' doesn't always mean 'all' and in context...
