    The Ice Bucket Challenge

It's no different than any other fundraisers, with the added social pressure of making it public. I once worked a carnival to raise money for brain tumor patients, and it didn't cheapen how we felt about the patients. Some people came because of the cause, others for the carnival - it's not...

Teen suspended after refusing to stand for Pledge of Allegiance

Big oops from the school. Laws vary a little by state, and I'm not familiar with Texas, but nationally several civil rights groups have already labeled this a free speech choice, and there are a few minor court rulings on it already. Either there's more to the story, or admin needs to get off...

A-113 The Mark of the Beast?

The Dark One? That's not what the article is about...it even says where the number comes from...and this is old news...I'm confused...

Failing to protect and educate our kids in schools

I agree. And we have our share of bad teachers. But why would America's best and brightest become teachers? We've been under a pay freeze for (3 years?), and with rising cost of living and health insurance, an actual pay cut. Oh, plus with new testing expectations my workload has massively...

Failing to protect and educate our kids in schools

I'm going to regret posting this... I'm a veteran high school teacher, in the public schools. I'm there every day. No offense, but some of the claims in this thread are ignorant, at best. A few of you have a giant chip on your shoulder, and you're making unsubstantiated claims about my...

    First Amendment Thrives Here

OP might want to notice the First Amendment applies to government only, not private entities like forum managers. Various content monitors for my browser went nuts when I tried to follow that link. Doesn't speak well for those forums in general.

West Virginia teachers union battles proposed ban on flip-flops, jeans...............

Depends on the where of things. Jeans, for example, border on formal wear in Arizona. Among other things, I also teach a shop class...so jeans are the norm for me. But they're always clean, fit, and new-ish. I think the bigger thing to draw from this is that, thank goodness, at least one...

Waiters share horror stories about Sunday church crowd

If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out. It's okay if you hate the system - but that is the US system. Christians on Sunday afternoon were by far my worst customers - I think the article is actually too nice. I lost track of how many times I was left a tract in place of a tip...

Another pedo-femme gets slapped on the wrist.

26 to 16 is a pretty huge gap. She's in a different place in life than him. There's also a power situation here. As a teacher, she has power, and theoretically wisdom over his age. I'm too tired (and angry, as a teacher) to word this very eloquently or in much detail. But simply, they...

Why does Obama mock the deaf?

Yes. Obama took time out of his schedule, intentionally found a fake interpreter just to mock people who might have otherwise voted for him, and then had him stand onstage behind him during his speech and those of other heads of state. Clearly an intentional scandal. I'm sure he thought he'd...

Woman troubled by her 'WHOR' license plate

I've had a few plates that accidentally spelled words, and even took some teasing over a few. I never wanted to spend money, but you'd be surprised how much people (adults!) will latch on to something like that as an ongoing and annoying joke. I had one where I finally went to the DMV and...

Let's hear it for the Christians!

If you've ever worked as a waiter, it isn't so far fetched. I saw (and received a few) all sorts of notes on receipts explaining away tips. Some people once said they had to money, but don't worry - they'll pray for me. I had tracts in place of tips. A group of teens who liked to leave...

Let's hear it for the Christians!

Hmm. I never think to ask my server's sexual orientation. By this line of thought, I should also be surveying them on the rest of their life choices, just to make sure I agree with everything they do. I should also check the manager and owner, and cooks, since they make money off my meal...

    2013 War on Christmas

I'll hate myself for getting into this...but exactly what religious freedoms have been taken away from Christians regarding Christmas? Everything you posted is in support of speech issues, just not on the Christian side of things. Did I miss the government outlawing private citizens the right...

Heartbreak as Teenager Kills Herself Because Parents Banned Her From Facebook

Hilarious: An Apology Letter to Mr. Obama

You're memory may be failing you. "Mr." is often applied later in an article or report after first calling the president President. I hear it all the time in live news reports from a variety of stations, but I couldn't tell you the origins of the standard.

Tribe seeks to force NFL Redskins name change

They could outlaw the broadcasting of the name, however. I'm not sure about stripping trademark protections as a free speech issue, since some folks would say trademarks themselves violate speech.

What struck WTC 7 on 9/11/2001?

You realize Loose Change was originally created as a joke, and later edited and picked up by the conspiracy backers? The original film maker just wanted to make a "what if" spoof.

Things Scientists Are Less Sure of Than Climate Change

I've never supported or denied global warming. I've always been anti-pollution, and I've lived in some of the most polluted metropolitan areas in the US, which don't even hold a candle to some of those overseas.

Things Scientists Are Less Sure of Than Climate Change

The crazy thing is that environmental destruction/pollution is undeniable, and yet the global warming craze became a debate. The same things that curb global warming - true or not - are beneficial in the short term for human and other biological life. Why we get hung up on this is beyond me.
