Is By grace through faith a good work?

I think if you take the path that faith is itself a work, then you eventually run into Catholicism. If you take the path that we are saved by no means of our own (including faith) then you eventually run into Calvinism. The scripture says "By grace we are saved", if this is prevenient grace then...

    Wesley's Parish....Let's Heal

No problems Gadfly, I will take on board what you have said. I will assure you though that I have little to hide - filling in my profile is not something that has occurred to me to do yet ... I only found out about private messaging the day before yesterday! I'll fill some stuff in, start some...

Like the appearance of a rainbow

Hi folks, Many years ago I spent a week with a team working as a missionary on a beach in South Wales. We'd spend our days taking kids on the beach, playing games with them, having a lot of fun, sharing the Gospel with them, but generally giving their parents an hours break here and there. I...

    Favorite Charles Wesley Hymn?

Indeed! Are there any other little gems that Charles Wesley wrote that I might not know about?

    Life with Jesus ....is Better.

I would concur here. Knowing Jesus, owning a Bible, being blessed with the ability to pray and the knowledge that prayer matters has been a constant throughout my life despite the ups and downs thrown at me. Why anyone would not want this for themselves is sometimes beyond me.

    Wesley's Parish....Let's Heal

A formal debate sounds like fun! Anyone want to take it on? Any subject, just for a little fun and the chance to learn something, and I will be interested :D I lost my marbles a long time ago, so no fear of marble depletion here :)

Sometimes God's Word ... is not what you want to hear!

That's the odd thing. What my flesh required was comfort that there would be no need to go and serve, that God would just "sort things out for me". Yet, when I read the word He intended me to hear, despite it being the complete opposite to what I "wanted" to hear, my flesh was indeed comforted...

    Wesley's Parish....Let's Heal

Actually saying nothing is sometimes the best plan! If someone has made a post that you feel requires admonishment, perhaps the best thing to do is be patient and let others answer the post first. If there is a need for someone to step up and say something in response to a post, then others...

    Wesley's Parish....Let's Heal

I think we all have big logs in our eyes. Jesus recommends we remove those first before pointing out our brother and sisters splinters. I know I am new here, but the bickering saddens me to see. How about we remove all those logs from our own eyes, gather them up, build ourselves a little cabin...

Sometimes God's Word ... is not what you want to hear!

Hi folks, Thought I might share an experience I had a long while back, illustrating that sometimes what you read in the Bible, what God is saying to you, is the exact opposite of what you want to hear from Him, but turns out better than you expected! The year was 1991, and I was studying at...

Favorite OT "Book" and Favorite NT "Book"?

Ruth in the Old Testament - it's a very gentle story against the turbulent backdrop of Judges. For the NT - hard to choose. I would go with John, as many have stated, or perhaps Acts, I really enjoy reading about the early church and how things all got started.

    All Saints Sunday, Nov. 6.

Could you explain a little about "Sirach 44:1-15" ? I hadn't heard of this book until your post, so I looked it up on Wikipedia. It appears to be a Jewish book, that was obviously not included in our Bible, and I was curious as to why it forms a part of a Christian service. :)
