    RIP Joe Paterno

He passed away today. He was 85. Sure he made a mistake in judgment by not reporting Sandusky to law enforcement. Instead he reported it to his superiors in the University administration. But I feel so bad for him that his last days on earth were so filled with controversies. I know he is in a...

Why do people say that Jesus was a socialist?

That's exactly how I see it. Also in the context of the rich young man who asked how he can have eternal life, Jesus said that it's impossible for mere mortals to reach salvation all by themselves. [Matthew 19:26] In that sense, Christians don't have to be charitable for salvation. That...

Why do people say that Jesus was a socialist?

A lot of sympathizers of socialism say that to demean those who don't agree with them. But capitalism doesn't prohibit people from helping the unfortunate ones. In a sense a socialist society is a case of forced charity. And if it's forced, how can it ever be real? How can it be Christian? I...

    Reading the Bible aloud.

I have found myself lacking the discipline to focus and read the Bible regularly. But I found something really interesting today. It seems like I can concentrate better when I read it aloud. I don't mean like shouting, but loud enough so that I can hear my own voice. :)

Awkward: How do you deal with atheists and agnostics?

Most people that I have known are either straight up atheists or at the most agnostics. Now that I am a new Christian, they find it either weird or funny or both. And I often get funny looks. lol. Well it makes sense since I was never the type of person to really believe in anything. But I kind...

Why would any depressed Christian kill himself/herself?

Believe me artybloke, I am not blaming anyone. I myself happen to take antidepressants regularly. I am just thinking out loud. All I was trying to say is that spirituality may help a lot of people hurting.

Why would any depressed Christian kill himself/herself?

Believe me, I know what I am talking about. I have been going through major depression for more than last two and half years and before I discovered my spirituality, on several occasions, I had suicidal thoughts. But since I found Christ I know God has a purpose for creating me - however small...

How does God talk to people?

That makes sense.:) Finally what is the role of Satan/Devil? Does he lead us to commit sin or he just tempts us using the weakness of the flesh world?

How does God talk to people?

Thank you both. Then where do our tendencies to make mistakes and commit sins come from? Is it completely separate from anything otherworldly/spiritual/religious/mystical?

How does God talk to people?

Okay. These might be some of the stupidest questions you have seen in a while but I am still pretty new to the faith so please bear with me. What I understand is that God works in His people through the Holy Spirit. Am I correct? I really don't care about the destiny vs free will debate. As...

    Christian way to meditate

I am not sure. Never quite understood its purpose. But my guess is - to reduce anxiety/stress and increase self-control. I don't know, but praying does seem to do all those things too. So to tell you the truth, I am talking about something I understand very little about.

Question on Suffrages in the BCP

In the Book of Common Prayer, there are a few suffrages in Daily Morning and Evening prayers. I don't understand what the 'v' s and 'R' s stand for in those suffrages. So, what are they?
