The Alpha Course - is it OK?

Hey, all - jumpin' on in to say that I have taken the Alpha course. I have also worked as a small group helper in my former church that was sponsoring the Alpha course. What Alpha is, is an introduction to Christianity. It is designed to answer questions such as "Who is Jesus?" "How and why...

    Questions for AG ministers (ordination)

Someone PM'ed me asking me a question regarding becoming a licensed A/G minister if you're divorced. For some reason, I am unable to post a reply there, so I'll try here: In 2001, they revised that rule...if your divorce took place PRIOR to your conversion, or if you had Biblical grounds...

    Questions for AG ministers (ordination)

Here are the different types of credentials: -Specialized Ministry License - this is for people who are called to minister in a specific area, such as music...women's ministries...health care ministries - things that are "callings" but aren't necessarily "preaching ministries." You have all...

A Newsletter I Was Given (Please Read)

Hmm...I guess I was "goth" before goth was cool...these are the gothic qualities that applied to me when I was a teenager. Frequently wears black clothing. It's the only color that matches everything...I still wear a lot of black for that reason! -Shows an interest in piercings or...

    A question about divorce

Am I hearing you right? I apologize if I misunderstood you, but do you honestly believe that God expects a person to stay in an abusive marriage?

    How to respond?

Sounds like you handled it really well - whether or not the child's grandma was a Christian, the child can still definitely pray to God for comfort. Now, if she asked you flat-out, "Is my grandma in heaven now?" then pastordavidd's comment is perfect, too, IMHO!

    World of Warcraft

LOL!!! I'm not a WoW'er, but my husband is...we just went to Walmart last night so he could reserve his copy of the new expansion... Nothing against the game (I don't think it's satanic or anything!) - just never got into any type of gaming!! I can't believe I'm posting on a thread...

    Lying to Children

It is possible to teach kids truth without going into the gory details. For example, the crucifixion is a terribly violent story. But I can tell a kindergartener that Jesus died on the cross for their sins without showing them clips from "The Passion." But as this is a children's ministry...

    Joyce Meyer's Everyday Life Bible

So, anyway...getting back to the topic... Tell me more about the study Bible - I'd like to know what people think about it!!

We're wrong about the homosexuals in Romans 1

So true!!! To add to that, God did not tell us "Go in the world and make heterosexuals." The Holy Spirit still works...preach the gospel...make disciples...He'll take care of convicting people of their specific sins, no matter what they are!

    Christmas Programs

I'm doing a great one right now called "The Christmas Animals." Just Google the title and it will take you right to the website. I'm doing it with all kids, but my friend is doing it with an inter-generational cast. Very easy music...can be done in smaller or bigger churches, with a big...

    Election results

I don't think either political party speaks for God - there are things about both the Republican and Democratic agendas that line up with Scripture, and things about each party that do not. That being said, I feel like American Christians tend to pray more in general for our nation, our...

    DVD based curriculum

I don't have any personal experience with Kidmo or any other DVD-based curriculum...I prefer to get more "bang for my buck." Others I have talked to really liked the energy of the program, and the praise and worship is really good. BUT...it tends to make children's pastors obsolete! You...

Questions for Assemblies of God people

As an A/G pastor, I can answer some of your questions. If you are licensed or ordained in one district and are called to a new one, you just need to call your district office and have them transfer your credentials. You maintain your credentials by preaching a certain number of times per year...

Evangelist Haggard - guilty as charged.

But before he actually sinned...before it became something he needed to confess, it was something he struggled with. No one wakes up in the morning and says, "Hey, I think I'll try being gay today!" So if you're a Christian and you struggle with homosexuality in your thought life, who can you...

Evangelist Haggard - guilty as charged.

And perhaps if he had felt like he was able to discuss his struggles with someone BEFORE he acted on them, this whole discussion may not be happening, and there would have been no sin to confess. The world may never know...

Evangelist Haggard - guilty as charged.

Right. And if he had "come clean," saying publicly that he struggled with homosexuality before he was caught, would people have been any more merciful? Either way, he needed to step down...which he did. He needed to get help...which he is doing. The most important thing now is that he...

Is anybody here from Wisconsin? (2)

"if you ever talk to someone who lives in MN aand mention that mall, they will roll their eyes as if to say "I'm so sick of hearing aboot that mall!" SO true!!! I live in Wisconsin now, but I just moved from the Twin Cities a few months ago. Lived 15 minutes from the MOA and tried my best to...

    help me!!

If you have truly repented, then it's a done deal. God has forgiven you. As Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery, "Then neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more!" You are forgiven, and don't let the devil or any person acting on his behalf tell you differently! Right now, you...

Recommendations for text for Bible as literature course

How to Read the Bible as Literature by Leland Ryken is an excellent book - he seems to write from a more conservative point of view, but uses literary devices and language to help the reader get even more out of God's Word by reading it as literature!! Hope that helps!!
