    The Catholic View of Creation

Thanks for replying, that is what I want to believe (which I appreciate is a little risky!). If as you say creation has been journeying since it began, and through grace is being guided to ever higher forms of beauty, how do you perceive the Garden of Eden? What does it represent? A state in...

    The Catholic View of Creation

Hi all, I am being accepted into full communion with the Catholic Church next month, which I am obviously delighted about. I meet our parish priest weekly for catechism, and all is progressing well. I do have one issue that I am struggling with, and it’s a bit deep for my catechism discussions...

Would you consider this a sign?

So a further (almost) four years on and I still haven't committed to the Catholic Church. I have just found found out today that my maternal grandmother (not the one whose funeral I attended in the posts above) has a psalter from the 16th century given to her family as a thank you for protecting...

    New Catechumen

Thank you all! Genuine if slightly incidental question- to avoid misleading in either direction, do I change my faith icon now or when I am Chrismated?

    New Catechumen

After seven years of seeking and prayer I was accepted as a Catechumen at the liturgy this evening. It was a wonderful ceremony and the beginnings of a genuine homecoming. I'm actually joining the Coptic Church (British Orthodox Church) but although you might not be aware of it the answers and...

    Secret Lives of the Apostles

Of course it is! But rejecting a form of media out of hand is unnecessary. I'm sure we can trust ourselves to discern what is good and useful and what is not, and anything that beams the apostles into people's homes in a positive light has to be a good thing in this day and age.

    Secret Lives of the Apostles

I'm now watching the other National Geographic programme on the same topic- Deadly Journeys of the Apostles! I really recommend it if you can get to see it. There are contributions from figures like the Dean of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral speaking on the work of St James on the Iberian...

Petition to get FB to allow Orthodox clergy and monastics to use their names

I respect that position, but I do see an awful lot of good being done through the network being provided, with clergy using it to take Orthodoxy to people who would previously have been unreachable.

Petition to get FB to allow Orthodox clergy and monastics to use their names

I think it is really important for Orthodox clergy to be visible and active on Facebook. It can be an almost peerless evangelistic tool.

    Secret Lives of the Apostles

Did any Orthodox posters watch this mini-series on National Geographic? I have it recorded and am about to start and wonder what other people's thoughts might be, the apostles being so important to our faith. Secret Lives of the Apostles - National Geographic Channel - UK

    Groups for Isolated Christians

Evening all, I attend, support and love my local independent chapel. We have about 8 regulars and probably 12 infrequent visitors. I am sub-30, everyone else is post-50. This is not a problem for me, I think we are an important witness and see God doing great things here. It would be nice...

    Simple Church

What an edifying post. Thank you. If I can briefly mangle a metaphor, there is a church up on the cliff side above the hotel in Santorini in which I am staying. I can see it from the balcony and I was desperate to climb up there. Yesterday my wife and I did so, and although we had been warned...

    Simple Church

Thank you for all your replies. I'm in Santorini at the moment and attach this picture I took this morning by way of a thank you! While I would never, ever compare my situation to the persecuted church, this debate cuts to the heart of my own internal dilemma, whether to "grow where I have...

    Simple Church

This is really interesting, could you expand on this a little please?

    Simple Church

Thanks for your replies, I will certainly check those links. I particularly like the idea of the field hospital vs a high tech medical facility. I think in my original post I may have over stated the emphasis the pastor placed on the early church. His focus was much more on the present-day...

    Simple Church

I didn't know what to title this thread, but I would like to know how you would answer this. The pastor of a local conservative evangelical, non denominational chapel challenged my Orthodox leanings like this- Man has erected barriers between themselves and God, such as liturgy, priests etc...

    Wesleyan/Arminians

I recently discovered James Burton Coffman's and Adam Clarke's commentaries, both of which have been of great help to me and both of whom I believe are Arminian.

    Wesleyan/Arminians

Not checked -in for a while. Thank you very much for your input. I am very much finding my way in this evangelical (for want of a better word) world, and I agree with raschau's take on Oden. I really like a lot of his writing (that which was believed everywhere by everyone etc) but there is a...

    Wesleyan/Arminians

Thank you very much for those suggestions, I've had a good read of some of their articles. One thing I would really like to read is a decent conservative arminian systematic theology. I was looking at Tom Oden's Classical Christianity and was also thinking about Norm Geisler's work although I...

    Atonement, Soteriology and Justification

I'm not asking which one is right, just what is the difference? As best I can tell Soteriology is the the study of how we are saved (Calvin vs Arminius etc), Atonement is how Christ made our salvation possible (moral influence vs penal substitution vs Christus Victor etc). Is this right? And is...
