Alright clever people, which is "Evolution": mutation or adaptation?

Gottservant: rid yourself of false dichotomies like the one you have based this thread on. The world is not so simple.

Titan covered in seas of abiotic oil

The petroleum industry drills $500 million wells that only make it 6 miles down in relatively soft rocks. Granted, those rocks come with a different set of challenges than a mid ocean ridge basalt, but I'll be seriously impressed if they make it to the 'mantle' in a billion dollars or less.

Titan covered in seas of abiotic oil

I will always provide an opportunity for discussion of the available data. Whether or not others take that opportunity is up to them.

Titan covered in seas of abiotic oil

Take it from a geologist working in the petroleum industry- oil does not come from the mantle. We understand -with a pretty massive amount of data- where it does come from, and that is from deeply buried sedimentary rocks that contain high percentages of previously living organic matter.

    Global Warming---Oops!!

Isn't it interesting that the religious so often point to things and say '__________ is a religion! Those people are just religionists!' as though religion is is a bad thing. Pot, kettle, etc.

What Would Falsify the Flood? (2)

Really? 1000 replies to a thread that begs the question RIGHT IN THE TITLE? Oh CF, you will never change.

    My questions for an 'evolutionist'

So is intelligence. Outsmarting your predators prolongs survival and improves reproductive odds. Where are you coming up with 'super intelligence'? How are you measuring our intelligence vs. other species? Is this measure quantitative or qualitative? Given this measurement, is our...

What does it mean for God to "exist"?

And thus it is real, in that it can be measured and observed. Just saying it,s a concept doesn't make it so, particularly since I've provided evidence that it's not. Don't derail your thread because you were wrong on this; accept the evidence and move along.

Has young earth creationism become an obstacle to the Great Commission?

He's not. I work in one of the most technically challenging basins in the world and we have a discovery rate of over 50%. And keep in mind that 'discovery' means 'wells that flow economic quantities of petroleum at current market value', not 'wells that find petroleum'. We actually find...

Has young earth creationism become an obstacle to the Great Commission?

Well I'm glad you know how to do my job. If you've got some extra time, maybe you can sit down and walk me through it? I've really been struggling. All this geology stuff is just so HARD! :(:(:(

Has young earth creationism become an obstacle to the Great Commission?

No! I can't tell you how to find oil in a christianforums.com thread! The energy industry employ THOUSANDS of geologists who have millions of hours of experience to do that. May as well ask me to build a spaceship that can fly you to Mars. Don't be dim.

Has young earth creationism become an obstacle to the Great Commission?

Yes. I am a geologist employed by an energy company. Short answer: using principles of mainstream geology including those I've already mentioned. Long answer: Read a petroleum geology textbook, earn a geology degree, and then you'll have some of the tools necessary to understand how it works...

Has young earth creationism become an obstacle to the Great Commission?

Yes, all of them. Every petroleum company uses mainstream geology. If geology does not work as the petroleum industry understands it, we would not be able to predict where oil can be found. Yet, the industry is incredibly successful at finding and extracting their product. That success...

Has young earth creationism become an obstacle to the Great Commission?

The scientific principles upon which the most profitable companies on Earth are built are wrong. This is your contention?

Has young earth creationism become an obstacle to the Great Commission?

Not just knowledge, but intense and intricate application of evolution, scientific old earth geology (as opposed to creation 'geology'), and plate tectonics, three things that 'dad' vehemently opposes. The energy industry wouldn't use it if it didn't work.
