Are we to preach the gospel AND make disciples AND baptizing AND teaching to obey OR

We are commanded to go and make disciples and baptize them. You don't need a professional pastor to baptize a new believer in Christ. We have lost sight of our mission when we relegate any part of discipleship solely to professional pastors. If we don't feel biblically literate enough to perform...

What do you think? Sorry if it's a repeater! ;-)

My wife got both shots. I have only gotten the regular flu shot but need to get the h1n1 lickety split as she's due in late January. I have my reservations about flu shots and aggressive vaccination scheduling but think any risk incurred is worth it.

What brought you to a Baptist church?

A miscarriage. In August 2008 my wife and I were in the hospital to take care of a miscarriage. The ultrasound showed no baby in the womb any longer. Rather than go through the traumatic natural process we elected to finish things up quickly and get on with the emotional healing of losing our...

You Baptists are like nailing jello to a wall!

I agree that we must not impose anything on God. We can't. Which is why I put that last sentence in there, specifically "the logic seems to fit." I am not sure and won't know until I join my Lord in Heaven. I'm inferring based on several passages and what I have learned of the character of God...

You Baptists are like nailing jello to a wall!

I think God is just and fair. I don't think, for example, that aborted babies go to hell because they did not choose. The subject of "age of accountability" seems logical and fitting with the justice of God. A local pastor made the point that he thinks anyone who died before the age of...

Salvation of others, are you concerned?

In the spirit of unity I'll not start an argument concerning the catholic church. God bless.

    If im saved then why..................

Reading the bible is not always something I want to do. Worship is not always a monumental outpouring of joy. However, we make the choice to worship God and we do it. Eugene Peterson goes over this and other topics in his book "A long Obedience in the same Direction" Worth a look Robert.

Salvation of others, are you concerned?

Though not necessarily constructive to the discussion at hand, I would love the day we could toss out our denominations and be united as one church in Christ. I hold no allegiance to the Baptist church though I belong to one. I'm a member their because my fellow brothers and sisters welcomed me...

    Confession

First, stay safe in Iraq! I was raised Catholic as well. The catholic church never felt like a home for me but I understand that many brothers and sisters enjoy the structure there. I now belong to a baptist church but I don't necessarily identify as baptist. I am a Christian, not a baptist...

    Extereme forgiveness

Because we as fallen humans have a sliding scale depending on ourselves. God's judgment is pure because God is perfect, good, holy, and true. Because God is without sin, ALL sin is evil. If God had a sliding scale of forgiveness, we would all be in deep trouble. The absoluteness of God's...

    The Doctrines Of Grace

I'm no theologian but I think its a sign of conversion/walking with God. Sensitivity to sin brought on by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Showing you what was there but you were blind to in your sin. My relationship with God goes through its peaks and valleys. The closer I feel to him, the...

I never received an immersion (water) baptism, should I?

No matter what, get back to church and fellowship with fellow believers in Christ. Worship God! I can't wait to go to Church tomorrow. There was a period in my life when I had no Church family, but I can't imagine being without it now.

    The Meaning Of Repentance

Luke 7:29-30 - The Pharisee's rejected John's call for repentence. Matthew 5:20 - Jesus illustrated that we cannot be justified by the law. Which is why he came to fulfill it. (v.17) To be perfect under the law, because no man could be perfect under it. Acts 22:16 - Grammatically, calling on the...

Jesus is well and alive today.....

I'm guessing this isn't the only thing you worry about? Doubt is a powerful feeling. But it's just that, feeling. Feeling is not faith. Have you ever read the Case for Christ, or The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel? Good reads. Also, "Can Man Live Without God" by Ravi Zacharias.

    The Meaning Of Repentance

Confession of sins was not enough under the old covenant. Belief in Jesus Christ is the salvation of the new covenant. So, either you believe the new covenant was in effect or it was not. So if we admit to Jesus Himself that we are sinners (and we do) and are forgiven, what changes between then...

    The Meaning Of Repentance

If he was under the old covenant then he died with unconfessed sin that was not atoned for by temple sacrifice. As such he died under the Law. Also in Luke 22:20 Jesus said: "20In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured...

    Alright, A Free Will Thread

No choice? If God has no choice, God is not all powerful or all knowing. Lack of choice is a limitation. God is not limited. Maybe I'm reading something in your post that you're not saying.

    The Meaning Of Repentance

Baptism is not necessary for salvation. If it is, then Jesus is a liar and the thief on the cross went to Hell. Since we know that Jesus is not a liar, then we know the thief on the cross went to heaven. Baptism is an act of obedience and public declaration of faith, but is not an act of...
