    John 6:44 and John 12:32

Are you asserting here that John 6:37-45, 65 are not soteriological verses? The verse quoted here (which you did not quote in your initial response) does not answer the question because you have not expounded upon it in light of your question. We have different understandings of the passages...

    1599 Geneva Bible

I have one and I really enjoy looking over and using the notes in my studies! Unfortunately I am not smart enough to read the translation itself :(

    John 6:44 and John 12:32

I believe that this is an unnecessary question as, not only myself, but heymikey80 and nobdysfool also, have explained our reasons in this thread as to why the same “him” that is drawn by the Father is the same “him” that is raised up by Jesus on the last day. Instead of asking the same...

    John 6:44 and John 12:32

The thread seems to have gotten a bit off topic and so I hope to bring it back around. I want to look at John 6:44,45 in light of John 6:65. John 6 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets...

    John 6:44 and John 12:32

I do not see the posts (probably because I wear glasses and am blind). So could you be so kind as to point to me the post numbers in this thread where you specifically address verse 45? Draw and give are actions done by the Father, come is an action done by the individuals. Would you care...

    John 6:44 and John 12:32

Just out of curiosity, are you going to walk through John 6 and provide an exegesis/interpretation, or are you just going to ask questions? I am not trying to be rude, I just learned early on that in these online discussions, it is easy to make it look like you have one when all you do is ask...

    John 6:44 and John 12:32

The reason for Jesus' statements in John 12 is that Greeks, ie, non-Jews, came seeking after Jesus. What Jesus is referring to when He says that He will draw all men to himself is not that everyone without distinction is drawn by Jesus, but that Jesus will draw all different types of groups...

    John 6:44 and John 12:32

If we assume that John 12 informs us how many are drawn in John 6, and if we assume that John 12 teaches us that everyone without distinction is drawn (which even the context does not affirm) then we must affirm universalism. John 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me...

    Mark Driscoll

I would have to disagree. His statement (below) is more than just controversial, it is inaccurate. "Old Calvinism was cessationistic and fearful of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. New Calvinism is continuationist and joyful in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit." Driscoll...

    the new Calvinism

I just hope these "New Calvinist" read and get a good grounding in the "Old Calvinist." Also, is Driscoll really saying that those that don't believe that Spiritual Gifts like tongues and prophecy are for today are really "afraid of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit?" Or is he referring...

    Mark Driscoll

I am a huge fan of Driscoll, I listen to his sermons on a consistent basis. There are some things I disagree with him (like the L and images of Jesus), but other than these, I really appreciate what he is doing in the most unchurched area of the US.

That is a good idea. I would add on giving him a copy of Owen's Death of Death.

Do you love people God hates?

So two people are saying that I am disregarding the "clear" words of Jesus for some Old Testament passage (however, they are neglecting my statement that Romans 9 speaks of the same idea as Psalms 5). First, I should say that I believe that all of Scripture is God breathed (not just the words...

Do you love people God hates?

I believe that Christ is a perfect mediator who gets what He asks for, i.e. the justification, sanctification, and glorification of those He intercedes for. Since not everyone goes through this process, I believe Christ mediates for only a certain group. As I mentioned later in my post, I...

    am i an unbeliever?

But for those who are fundamentally sound, as i consider my self to be... I am sorry that you came away with such a negative experience. I would hope you would understand that what the Elders of the Church are attempting to do is guard the Lord's Table. At the Presbyterian Church I attend, if...

Do you love people God hates?

When Paul tells Timothy prayers should be made for "everyone," who is he referring to? Is he telling Timothy to get the local phone directory and begin with "A" and go through "Z" and pray for every individual? Is Paul telling you and me that? I don't think so. I think the "everyone" in...
