Cessation of gifts of the Spirit doctrine mandatory?

Which is exactly where it comes down to for me. I know that speaking of the gifts being in operation still is against the WCF, but I am very much Reformed. I hope I do not come under scrutinization in the PCA church i'm planning on joining.

Cessation of gifts of the Spirit doctrine mandatory?

Hi brethren, wanted to get your takes on this topic. Personally, I do not see clear scriptural evidence that the gifts have ceased, whether implicitly or explicitly.

    Facing Important Decision, Advice Needed

Well, I went to a PCA church here in my hometown (bless God!), First Presbyterianl. It was amazing, wife and I both loved it, even our 6 month daughter enjoyed it (so much so I had to take her to the nursery, unfortunatley). I told my mother about it, next step is to talk to the Pastor of the...

You know, I just found the thread addressing these issues. Please forgive me for not looking hard enough. If I knew how to delete this thread I would. :( Very sorry!

    Reformed Baptist/Presbyterian

This question may have been asked before, and I tried searching for it... There is a PCA church and a Reformed Baptist church where I am, and I am trying to decide which to go to. What is the main differences between the two? Are they significant or debatable?

PCUSA ministers, elders and deacons begin renouncing ordinations

Correct me if i'm wrong... but she was a leading Elder in her congregation, who had a huge problem with the PCUSA and their liberal decision of accecptance and ordination of gays. I guess it really is selective literal-ness. Who knew the Bible says nothing of women being in leadership? *shakes...

Hair, dress, and a cage-stage Calvinist!

Oh wow! Oops... I meant PCA. Not PC(USA). Sorry for the confusion. I most likely confused myself. So it's not a strict "you have to wear this and that" thing, as long as you look nice you'll be okay? EDIT: Man, you can tell i'm quite green, haha.

Hair, dress, and a cage-stage Calvinist!

Simple straightforward question here... I (and my wife and baby girl) am going to attend what seems like a nicely conservative Presbyterian (PCUSA) congregation for the first time soon and I am wondering: Is long hair on a male a no-no? (Mine is medium/long in length) Is casual dress frowned...

Anybody listening to the Dividing Line this week?

Listen to him every week. Actually, what is funny is I am listening to the second 90 minute show of the week as I speak. Haha. The email he got that he is going over is extremely interesting. The debate is very interesting too. To be honest, as I am a green Calvinist, I had no idea that there...

    Facing Important Decision, Advice Needed

Always a blessing when somebody has had the same experience! Haha! Well, regarding being "involved", I am a regular attendee yet in ignorance joined the church, I think pretty much saying that "I adhere to the doctrinal statements of this denomination". I did that cause I felt so loved there and...

    Facing Important Decision, Advice Needed

Hello all! I am having quite a dilemma here: Since salvation I have been going to a Church of God church. I used to go pretty much every Sunday and Wedensday and have always enjoyed it. The people there have been very loving and nothing but good to me and my family. On the other hand, the church...

    Book Review: ESV Study Bible

Which this is clearly very true in Acts, where the first followers of Jesus were surprised when the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles, the non-Jewish.

The dead where are they certainly not in heavan

John 13:36 "Where I go you cannot follow..." John 14:2-3 "I go to prepare a place for you ...I will come again and will take you to myself that where I am you may be also." Acts 2:29-34 "Patriarch David both died and was buried...David did not ascend into the heavens." John 6:40 "For my...

    Book Review: ESV Study Bible

I don't have time right now for an actual detailed review, I might give one later... But I have to say that I LOVE the ESV translation. Like crazy. It's my main Bible translation next to the KJV. So I got the Study Bible... and I LOVE it. Like crazy. Hehe. Seriously though, this huge Bible is...

"Homosexual is natural therefore it's ok." it's a bad argument.

Well, I am not going to sit here and argue this subject with you crazy smartguys...Whether or not "abomination" means something totally different from what we think it means, you are still failing to recognize the many times it is mentioned in the NT by Paul and others. Even Jesus HIMSELF placed...
