Question about "The Catholic Church left us"

Hello all, I have heard from those in the Anglican Communion that back in the 1530s when the Anglican Communion was formed, it was a case of the Roman Catholic church left the English Catholic church [aka Anglicans, Church of England], NOT Henry VIII causing the English church to leave the...

    What Makes a Church Grow?

I would also add a church that promotes discipleship opportunities and a pastor & leadership that is gifted in the area of organization. I say this because my current church is lacking both and I can see so many missed opportunities around me.

This is great! She worded it better than I could have.

    Baptism or Dedication?

Similar to Judaism where it one's child is included in God's family at a young age, and then encouraged to grow in that faith, Christian baptism brings a child into the family of God at a young age. God's special grace was made available to me at a young age through baptism. And then my parents...

    Baptism or Dedication?

Hello, I tend to be the active Nazarene here but if things slow down I tend not to check out WP for a while. Where in Italy do you live? I can see if I can find a Church of the Nazarene for you.

    Baptism or Dedication?

The Manual for the Church of the Nazarene allows for both infant baptism and infant dedication. It is up to the parents which will occur. I was baptized when I was a year old and consider it one of the best things that my parents did. I also, thankfully, never was rebaptized. God's grace given...

What are specific differences among Methodist denominations?

Yes, there are other Wesleyan denominations such as the Free Methodist, Church of God Anderson, Brethren in Christ and Salvation Army besides the UMC, CofN and Wesleyans. FM and UMC tend to be the more structured ones. The SA has a lot of structure but in a different way. They also don't...

    What Makes a Church Grow?

It is true. It is biblical. It is only our Western mindset of self-reliance that believes it has to be done through some human means like programs, etc

    What Makes a Church Grow?

Integrity, prayer, emotionally and spiritually healthy pastor and congregation, congregants who live lives that cause non-believers to crave what they have and community outreach of some sort.

What are specific differences among Methodist denominations?

Thinking of the sermons I grew up with and will still hear in my Nazarene church vs what I heard from my cousins' UM churches - in a Nazarene church, you'll hear lots more sermons that press you to make a spiritual decision NOW [have an "altar call"]. Some preachers can get carried away with...

What are specific differences among Methodist denominations?

Correct, there is nothing significant separating us. Some would say that we could do more if we banded together with the Wesleyans. But after each attempt to explore this idea, it is determined that merging would be too difficult/costly and so it doesn't happen. Edited to add: It is not like we...

What are specific differences among Methodist denominations?

And there is a chart out there [I've seen a few] but need to get to work so can't look for it. Maybe you could ask on the Nazarene Archives facebook page about it.

What are specific differences among Methodist denominations?

Between the Nazarenes and the Wesleyans the primary reason would be organizational. They have their colleges and we have ours, they have their ways of doing things and we have ours. It would be a chore to reorganize everything and right now, there is not really a major desire amongst the...

What is your favorite Bible translation?

I discovered a new translation called the Inclusive Bible. I just love it - I could read it for hours.

    Best book on Wesleyan/Holiness theology?

For Nazarenes, I would recommend Thomas Oord's Relational Holiness and maybe Wholeness in Christ by William Greathouse.

    Considering Becoming Wesleyan

In the past, the Church of the Nazarene had issues with legalism. Today's Nazarene churches in North America tend not to be as legalistic. Although, of course there will always be exceptions to the rule.

Where will conservatives go if they leave the UMC in a few years?

And that women are not allowed to be priests. Change that and end the Marian devotion and I might consider.

    Long time no see.....

Hello, good to see you again. I post here and there. This is about the last church forum left for me to go to for non-fighting discourse. Sigh... So, I pop in from time to time.
