Old Catholics on the Virgin Mary and praying to Saints

The Union of Utrecht Old Catholics do not adhere to the Immaculate Conception of Mary nor the Assumption as they are dogmas that were defined ex cathedra by the pope and it was largely the results of Vatican I (and it's definition of papal infallibility) that led to the Old Catholics separating...

Justin Welby: Anglican split over homosexuality would be a failure but 'not a disaster'

I'm not sure what you mean by this People are usually talking about marriage and ordination as sacraments when they talk about gay people being denied them. I realize you don't consider those to be sacraments but many do. Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what the purpose of the...

    ACNA on predestination

The Conciliar Anglican has laid out a rather thorough explanation of what he interprets the classical Anglican view of predestination to be. The first part can be found here: http://conciliaranglican.com/2011/11/11/sweet-pleasant-and-unspeakable-comfort-the-anglican-view-of-predestination-part-i/

    Liturgical Trends

This is one area I think the Eastern Orthodox have down. With no pews, you don't have to worry so much about keeping kids sitting still and quiet!

    Liturgical Trends

I haven't come across anything really egregious but I live in the Midwest. I get the feeling the more out there stuff like 'cosmic masses' seem to happen on the West Coast.

ACNA-Jewish Synagogue combination: anyone hear of this?

Wasn't there a regular poster here at one point who self identified as a messianic jew and had also been ordained an Anglican priest (perhaps in Australia?) It's too bad they aren't around anymore, could make for an interesting perspective on this matter.

    A Critique of ACNA

What a fascinating thread. I'm really totally out of the loop when it comes to the ACNA. A question: When you talk about left-leaning within ACNA what do you mean? Groups that accept women's ordination? From over here in TEC everyone looks rather conservative in the ACNA :P

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

I'd love to hear more about how the merger has worked out in practice.

Which Anglican Church do you favor?

I'd say I'm a pretty middle of the road Episcopalian. Progressive views on SSM and women's ordination but very traditional in regards to the creeds, sacraments, and liturgy.

    Which Denomination?

Old Catholicism would be my preference but since the Union of Utrecht has no presence in North America I would most likely end up in a ELCA parish. Anything else would start to feel like a bit too much of a stretch, but if I had to make due I could probably get on in a liturgical Methodist church.

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

Interesting, I had not heard of the Church of South India before. I'll have to look more into what that process looked like. I guess those with presbyterian and congregational polity quit considering that to be an important part of their faith? Kind of surprises me that they were willing to move...

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

Considering just how different the ecclesiology is between TEC and PCUSA I'm finding it very difficult to imagine what a merger between the two could possibly look like. Did any of the churches making up the UCC have such drastically different ecclesiologies?

Curry’s vision: a world transformed by God's love

Isn't this essentially what Sydney Anglicans are moving towards? Has anyone in the Communion moved to sever communion with them? Has anyone schismed and formed a parallel Anglican church in Sydney?

    Anglicans encouraged to drop Filioque

The Episcopal Church resolved to remove the filoque from the creed in future prayer books in 1994

    Separation of State and Church.

I think there is the possibility for a correct way to allow the Church to influence the State but that it can fairly easily be abused. Because of that, I'm OK with it where it has been the historic norm (ex. England) but wary of trying to introduce it somewhere new such as the United States.

    Catholicism in Anglicanism

I think this is exactly right. For the Society of Catholic Priests, they view themselves and Anglicanism as part of the Catholic Church and put an emphasis on many of the more 'Catholic' theological positions. So from their own point of view it makes perfect sense to refer to themselves as...

    Catholicism in Anglicanism

If innovation is contrary to Catholicity (or atleast to the traditional Anglican/Anglo-Catholic understanding of Catholicity), then in what sense can we say that Roman Catholics or Eastern Orthodox are Catholic?

    Catholicism in Anglicanism

Thanks for continuing this interesting discussion! I think this distinction is actually what makes Catholicism unique within the Anglican tradition. As you have pointed out, for Rome and for Orthodoxy anyone who has deviated at all from their tradition has lost out on the fullness of...

    I may return to Anglicansim.

Can you provide an example? They seem to pretty clearly have an understanding of themselves as part of the Anglo-Catholic tradition in more ways then just ritualism.
