I know why the decision was made. But when a decision conflicts with the Biblical understanding of any given issue can that decision be anything but arbitrary? If it was fine for church leaders to have spouses then, why change it?

And what I am saying is that the "authority" making this decision is wrong, especially in light of the apostles themselves having spouses. They don't have the authority to make arbitrary rules simply because it suits them.
