    Alexandrian Texts Corrupted?

You have to be careful who you ask when you're talking about Alexandrian vs. the TR. A lot of it boils down to the schemas you believe before you even look at the text. Those of us who believe in the reliability of the Alexandrian over the TR usually follow the guidelines proposed by Westcott...

I'm saddened by the passing of Jerry Orbach!

Shortest verse in the bible is......

Isn't it translated as "truly" or "verily" in the NT? Jesus says time and time again, "Amen, amen lego soi...."

No idea how to explain this...

There is huge irony when Jesus is on trial and the crowd shouts for the release of the "son of the father" while condemning the "Son of the Father." It's intentional and you can't miss it from a Jewish perspective.

    Ok...can you explain this?

Wow, that's a leap. Everything depends on a literal Adam? I think not. Genesis 1-11 is not ruined if read as fictive narrative. Um, unless I'm wrong, Christianity is the term for the people following Christ. You're not only a Christian, you're an Adamite. :D

    The West Wing

I'm addicted to West Wing. It plays 3 times a day on BRAVO, plus I watch it weekly on NBC. One of the best shows ever (right up there with Law & Order, 24, and Alias).

Law & Order Fans Out There??

May I just say that I'm upset about Lenny leaving L&O? He was the mainstay, the best, the troubled man with the funny quips. You'll be missed, Lenny Briscoe.

    Celibacy of priesthood - Scriptual?

I know why the decision was made. But when a decision conflicts with the Biblical understanding of any given issue can that decision be anything but arbitrary? If it was fine for church leaders to have spouses then, why change it?

    Celibacy of priesthood - Scriptual?

And what I am saying is that the "authority" making this decision is wrong, especially in light of the apostles themselves having spouses. They don't have the authority to make arbitrary rules simply because it suits them.

Is the Holy Spirit a separate person?

The "another" is simply in distinction to Jesus, not to God.

Is the Holy Spirit a separate person?

You are mistaken. The same word can be masculine, feminine, or neuter. For example, in John 14:16b most translations read something like "in order that he may be with you into eternity." The "he" is simply a 3rd person singular present subjunctive and could also be translated "in order that it...

Is the Holy Spirit a separate person?

But if God is spirit (as the book says), and God sends his spirit, why does it have to be a distinct person?

Is the Holy Spirit a separate person?

Don't be ridiculous - I never said Jesus was a woman.

Who are you voting to be the next american idol?

I agree that Fantasia can have a nasal quality to her voice, but Jasmine doesn't belong there at all. LaToya and Diana should have been the final 2. Jasmine gets the sympathy votes and the votes of the hormonally charged 12-16 year old boys. That's how she manages to stay for so long.

Who are you voting to be the next american idol?

This is the sad truth.... :sigh:

Is the Holy Spirit a separate person?

Your argument is based on the english language which clearly distinguishes the gender of the pronoun. the text is in Greek, wherein the gender of the pronoun is not so obvious. Whil the text could be translated "he will" it could also be translated "she will" or "it will."

    Celibacy of priesthood - Scriptual?

The simple common sense isn't so simple. Like I told Oblio, those groups that mandate abstention from alcohol are also instituting rules not found in the Bible and are in error. It's easy to say, "If you don't like it, don't join." But it can't end there. I'm saying that the church (RCC or EO or...

    Celibacy of priesthood - Scriptual?

True but it does allow for marriage. Such being the case, how can the RCC prohibit it?
