    CALC Lutheran & female ministers

So I've come across this group of Lutherans, who seem to be quite conservative and confessional, yet at the same time they allow female ministers. Any comments on this their essay? http://www.calc.ca/Ordination%20of%20Women.pdf

laughing at people when they get hurt?

Sure it can be funny. And if you saw something funny like that and then realized they actually got hurt, it would probably not be funny anymore and your laughter would stop. Don't sweat the small stuff-keep laughing.

Why doesn't God talk to me?

God talks to you in the Bible. That is how He talks to all of us. There is enough communication from God in the Bible to last us a lifetime, we don't need anything extra. Besides, when people claim God spoke to them in a different way, how do they know for sure it was really God? Don't trust...

Please help me find my path

There are many different Christian denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Church, the Lutheran Church, the Pentecostal etc etc.. All of those denominations have many local congregations. Then there are congregations that don't belong to any of the established...

    communion question

I prefer the common cup because it feels more special than a small plastic one, but I don't think it matters to the Lord because the cup is not what makes Communion Communion. When there was an option, and I felt a bit unwell, I took the plastic one. Otherwise I've always used the common cup.

    I like Vancouver British Columbia

That sounds about right. I recently moved back to the Riviera after having lived in the beautiful prairies. I think all parts of this huge continent have their own beauty, charm and breathtaking views. :) One day I hope to make a cross country RV-trip.

Where to draw the line on social issues?

My opinion is that the issue has now gone so far that it seems impossible to reverse. For that reason I don't engage in any active attempts to change the law; instead I try to talk to people whenever the opportunity arises. I agree and understand that abortion is really really bad and "much...

    Advent Wreaths

Electric candles = good idea. Our altar flowers caught fire once and that was not a pretty sight.

Lutherans view on their Scandinavian Churches?

I'm sure at least some of those "micro-synods" have reached their positions without having had to "buy" them from America..

    Call Process

I think most synods have a list of Pastors who are "available" to receive a call, and they may already be serving other congregations. It is then up to the Pastor to decide if he's gonna stay with his current church or move to the new one that just called him. If he moves, the congregation that...

Asking prayers of the Saints (or the Virgin Mary)

This is probably completely off topic but what comes to mind is Deuteronomy 18 where clearly God was not pleased with people who consulted the dead. I'm sort of thinking that praying to the dead is sort of consulting them, rather than praying directly to the One who is able to answer.

    Forgiveness and the sacraments?

Christ paid the price on the cross, once and for all. However, until we reach heaven, we will still fall into sin, and need to live in daily repentance. 1 John 1:8-10 New International Version (NIV) 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we...

    Problem with Lutheran baptism teaching!

A logical impossibility would be to say both the "positive" and "negative" about the very same point. Example: Anna eats the apples ("positive") AND at the same time Anna does not eat the apples ("negative"). What is it with Biblical baptism that you think is a logical contradiction?

Lutheran vs Orthodox: What's Are the Main Differences?

No, Lutherans believe that sanctification is both God and man. (It's with regard to justification we Lutherans stress that it's only God.) So, we say: Justification: God alone Sanctification: God & man :)

Lutheran vs Orthodox: What's Are the Main Differences?

This sounds a bit like what we'd call sanctification--becoming more sanctified, more holy, more Christlike. (The Holy Spirit working in us, helping us grow...(man+God)) But perhaps you're thinking of something else..?

Lutheran vs Orthodox: What's Are the Main Differences?

Good to see you too! :) Well, not only "in order to give all glory to God" but basically because we believe that is what the Scriptures teach.

Lutheran vs Orthodox: What's Are the Main Differences?

The Lutheran view: A sacrament is a sacred act instituted by God Himself, in which there are certain visible means connected with His Word, and by which God offers, gives and seals unto us the forgiveness of sins which Christ has earned for us. Baptism: Word & Water Lord's Supper: Word &...
