How important is respect and obedience in a wife?

Paul says women should be obedient to their husbands just as we are all obedient to the Lord. And I suspect that is often the case.

Am I supposed to be doing anything while on Earth?

Life isn't so much a chance to earn damnation as it is a chance to escape it by following Jesus. It's less like "follow this book exactly or die" I think, and more like "jump off the train NOW." As I've aged I've seen what other's choices have done for them; what you accept as greater than...

Am I supposed to be doing anything while on Earth?

The soldier reference is a good one. Sometimes we will be out fighting in the field but often you're going to find yourself in the barracks, waiting for your next orders. It's hard to not be impatient, but this is the best time to brush up on your skills and perfect/recover who you are and what...

    Ever imagine you're single?

And I don't know... Marriage can definitely kill some part of the psyche concerned with being, or feeling, or aspiring to be desirable. Maybe you should use this time to slough off that old skin and make a pact to be desirable to your spouse and vice versa again..?

    Ever imagine you're single?

I think this topic hits on one of those which can be innocent and come from a pure heart, but which could also be a symptom of an underlying problem or potential problem. We should all be reflecting with Jesus on our spiritual health from time to time. Satan will use anything to turn our lives...

Why I want to remain single!

The grass is green on both sides of the hill. Do you have a specific plan on how you want your single life to be used to glorify God, or do you just mean in general?

Feels like a mid-life crisis..not sure what to do

No matter what you do, it's human nature to regret you didn't do the other. So understand that first. A solid career could be fulfilling, especially one working for a big organization like the govt. But what you'll probably find are that your co-workers end up having families, etc. In my...

    What were you doing in...1985?!

Lol, this thread reminds me of that test where it says "read all the instructions first," and if you don't you end up clucking like a chicken. In 2013 I was a naïve hopeful college grad about to head to my first job as a house parent at a girl's home.

So am I an old fuddy-duddy now?

Men can get rough around their friends sometimes, and its from our need to assert and try our confidence. I've noticed that streak in some assertive females too. Foul language is mostly for teenagers I think. It shows a loss or lack of control. If I read aloud I feel stupid reading curse words...

    Regrets thread

I had a really good friendship with a girl in my early 20's but was stupid and tried to turn it into a romance. I bitterly regret ever doing that. I found an amazing girl in college I ended up falling in love and marrying but any attempts to revive that friendship have failed.

What do/did you do for a living?

Nice thread idea, and some interesting reading. In retrospect, I see a common theme in my own life: >Jet mechanic in the AF. But I moved to "material"...er, "materiel support", where I watched over tools and chemicals instead. I liked paperwork and accounts better. >Security police in the...

RIP Mr. Spock - Leonard Nimoy Dead at 83

I'll remember him with this quote: "Computers make excellent and efficient servants, but I have no wish to serve under them." I also remember him fondly from the old "In Search Of..." episodes.

    What were you doing in...1985?!

Thought this might be a fun game. This is the 30-something board, so we'll start with 1985; I'll take it, and the next poster takes 1986, then 1987 and so on. We each talk about what we were doing in the year we post. If we get to 2015 we'll just start over. So: In 1985 I was 5. I remember...

    Regrets thread

Can we get a good life regrets thread going? 30-ish is a good time to start looking back on a few of the things that didn't happen, be it romance, career, or other. I recently passed my great 35th, and among others, my dream of being an Air Force officer never even came close to happening...

    Cheesy Horror Films

Killer Clowns and Demons are in a class all their own. Humanoids from the deep and Death by Dialogue are about to make an appearance in my old VCR in the next few days. All these are par for a bad movie night. Alien Seed with Erik Estrada (no, I'm not kidding) is another great one.

    Putting on our new nature.

There are different ways of seeing things, equally valid in men's eyes, but useless on the eyes of the Lord. One example given was Islam. Another, taken from scripture, is the Law. But Paul said he became as a Jew to win the Jews. It's important to be able to remember other's views, even if...

    "Look Busy"

I've been considering this too, lately. I remember James talking about feeding the hungry and clothing the naked, and social work is no doubt helpful, but the question is, " is this building up the kingdom in me too? " We also are God's investment. I want to be able to better things in the...

    Favorite verses or quotes

Ran across this one the other day and I really liked it: "It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more than.... a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason...
