    Todays Churches and Martin Luther

Luther didn't think very highly of other opinions in general, and especially the people that held them, including Zwingli who went in the direction of your Baptist/evangelical churches (although he believed in infant baptism). While he was convinced that the Catholic church had come to reject...

    Anglican Apostolic Succession

It may be more exact to divide by separating fact and value: There (is)/(may or may not be) a line of bishops leading back via a line of ceremonies to the apostles, and this is (essential)/(advantageous)/(unimportant) for the ministry of the Anglican church. The 39 articles, which holds varying...

    Anglican Apostolic Succession

As usual there is a range. From low to high: -It doesn't exist, there is a priesthood of all believers, and who remembers what all the official anglican titles are anyway? -The church has an order whereby when someone is given a important position, the book of common prayer should be used and...

    Every human deserves basic respect.

Good to see you still here TomUK! Somehow I feel the opposite way. Externally speaking we should deny them rights (e.g. may imprison them etc.) and maybe even social dignities (which is probably necessary for social order), but fundamentally we should consider them as no more or less bad than...

    Every human deserves basic respect.

Hello again higgs2. First post for a while. The site looks very different but glad to see the same people on here. Anyway to answer your question, no, in this regard we should do as God does and not be "respecters of persons". (This includes ourselves, others, christians, atheists, heroes...

    Thoughts about STR...

Oh yes I think this is right. Just a semantic difference: by opinion I meant something that is definitely held as being true (and if true in the Christian sense, then also "from God"). You can also refer to speculations, ideas, vague thoughts, etc. as opinions and what I said wouldn't apply to this.

    Thoughts about STR...

When I make a statement I want it to be understood that it has a certain meaning in contrast and in contradiction to other meanings. If in giving my opinion I have not said directly "you are wrong" to the person with the opposite opinion I certainly want it to be understood as an implication, or...

    Sentamu warns of 'cynical culture'

Liberalism (as used in the US) as a political philsophy/religion has its home in the US. Secularism as a whole is another thing. Why do you think churches in the US are faring better than in the UK?

    Sentamu warns of 'cynical culture'

This is very oblivious to the different parts of the Anglican church or to the different churches in the UK. Only some of them are as you say.

    The economy of Family Values

Don't know if the UK is really a part of Europe or not but I can say fathers aren't much appreciated over here, at least not by the government or the courts.

    Divine Dignity

Some good thoughts INRI2! Just one thing: one must take care though to place the resurrection in the future. We are not already raised from the dead: we shall be, God willing. There is indeed a dignity that derives from having the ressurection potentially in front of us as our eternal future and...

    Do you colour Easter Eggs?

Now do you colour them or do you color them? Let's start a real battle! Do you realise you are COLORing your text the "DarkOrchid" COLOR? Fixed; well, not quite.

If God loves us so much...

There are two questions you are asking here: - Why doesn't God put out extra spectacles so that unbelievers are more thoroughly condemned? Well no what's the point? God doesn't need to go to extra lengths to judge people for rejecting Him. The truth is already rejected as people distort the...

Gay Friends, what should I do?

If you are confident in yourself it would be best to stay. I can't give the best advice as I have not been the most effective witness myself to others in this situation. I hope you can be. Have a happy easter and keep strong in the faith!

    Separation of Morality and Society

Christianity did not bring slavery or inequality, or political freedom and democracy. It does not believe, in contrast to prevailing western religions, that these things posess ultimate value.

    Separation of Morality and Society

Separation of Christian morality and society, but the state religion's morality is OK - national ideologies surrounding the war of independence and other parts of US history, belief in freedom, civil rights, democracy etc..

    Sentamu warns of 'cynical culture'

Yes. You do get positive presentations of what Christianity in many individual churches, but not in the public sphere. It requires a lot of energy and dedication to get it outside. Thankfully a few churches do have this.
