Why are some parts of the Bible devalued or ignored

The Bible is elastic. People will generally focus on what is closely aligned with their agenda. It seems like your question is actually my answer. I devalue parts of the Bible that I am uncomfortable with because they cause my discomfort.

Do some CHRISTIANS teach that speaking in tongues is necesary for SALVATION???

I believe that the idea that baptism is necessary comes for somewhere in the Book of John or Acts. I am not sure where at the moment, but I'll find it out when I get home. The Bible is an elastic document. People can spin it a variety of ways in order to achieve what they think the truth is.

    CARM founder/Catholic apologist debate

"CARM's position is simple. If a Roman Catholic believes in the official Roman Catholic teaching on salvation, then he is not a Christian since the official RCC position is contrary to scripture. Therefore, as a whole, Roman Catholics need to...

    CARM founder/Catholic apologist debate

Matt Slick believes Mormons, JWs, RCs, Muslims, etc. etc. are going to hell. He knows he is going to heaven though, and I guess that is what is important to him. "We can sing our love songs to Jesus with wild abandon without needing to tell dirty stories about other religions."...

    Did Jesus have a choice?

It really depends on what you mean "for us". But anyway, I think of... mark 15:34 At three o’clock Jesus cried out with a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’ which means, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’

    Beating a dead horse...

Must God be in control? Could the sickness of a child just be the result of the randomness of the universe? I do not believe that God makes anyone sick. I also do not believe that he chooses to heal some people and not others for that would mean that God cherry-picks certain individuals. The...

    Praying for the dead?

I would rather read a Bible unedited by man too, but that is what we get because we live in a world with men (and women). But in any case, we at some point have to make the call to what our sacred scripture is. It is my belief that a God, or a Spirit does not make religious/spiritual writings...

    Homosexuals

From Saint Paul... There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 NRSV I would have to agree with Paul in this pericope. In Christ, it does not matter what one is. In...
