    LCMS Name Change?

I guess if those districts really feel they need to be distinct and different then it would be inappropriate for them to walk together with us. I can see why the SELC would want to remain separate for historical reasons, but the English District's purpose has outlived itself and is not necessary...

    Giving Myself Communion

They're not drinking to their own detriment, they just aren't receiving the Blood of Christ if there is no wine present. We assume it was wine because fruit of the vine means wine. Grape juice did not exist at that time. DaRev adds wine to grape juice because then at least the communicant is...

    Giving Myself Communion

Once again I'm talking about the element not the mode. You can be as rude as you want to me, but please don't insult our clergy. We are to take God at his Word, and we don't alter it out of convenience. Using grape juice because it is easier is exactly like using a chip for the bread. The Word...

    Giving Myself Communion

I haven't said anything about full immersion or the modes of baptism and the Eucharist. I've been talking about the elements not modes, ie. water and wine. There is no baptism without water, like there is no Eucharist without bread and wine. We don't know anything about God apart from his Word...

    Giving Myself Communion

I wasn't talking about the mode of Baptism, I was talking about the element of water in Baptism. Also grape juice and wine are not the same thing. Wine for the Eucharist is just as important as water is to Baptism, with the word these elements become sacraments.

    Giving Myself Communion

Is there Baptism without water? Grape juice is a later invention, which stops wine from becoming wine. I just figured since Jesus used wine, that wine is required in the Sacrament. I was always told that being critical about the Eucharist is a very biblical thing. Are priests and Lutheran...

    Giving Myself Communion

If you're gonna use grape juice you might as well use water, pop, or any drink. Jesus uses wine and grape juice is not wine. It doesn't matter what denomination you are, it is not biblical to use anything but wine just like baptism is not a sacrament unless the word is applied to water.

    Baptismal Regeneration

I'm pretty sure we do. Grace is mediated through word and sacrament, and the sacrament of Baptism regenerates us.

    ELCA statement on genetics (draft)

After the ELCA statement on sexuality I think everyone knows what the outcome of this next report will be. No speculation required. They've moved from the Bible on homosexuality, next it's abortion.

    ELCA statement on genetics (draft)

Personally? Proverbs 6:16-19 contains God's response to abortion. I don't really care what people think about it.

    Dogs in Heaven

So I was just wondering what the scriptures say about our beloved animals and pets when they pass. I recently lost my childhood dog and I asked my pastor for insight, and he told me the story about the Canaanite woman being called a dog and then the woman replying that even a dog would eat the...

    First Lutheran Service

But what about Christ's real presence in the sacrament? The summit of spirituality, Christ made present to us during the Divine Service! I could never permanently attend a church where the Eucharist is viewed as a symbol.

    Churches leaving ELCA

Don't get angry at Angelus, he's simply just trying to explain the situation. Out of everyone in this forum I would say that he has been the most level headed about this situation. It is of course a horrendous decision to relabel sin, but a faction in the ELCA has prevailed over another faction...

    I don't fit in ELCa---where do I fit?

Hello Don! Very nice observations! I too feel the same way although I am in the LCMS. My wish for Christmas is that the ELCA would battle mainstream Protestantism within its ranks, and that the LCMS would battle Evangelical Protestantism within its ranks. Unfortunately both of our great Lutheran...

We clap too, but always outside of the Divine Service. It's not biblically mandated but it sure feels like it lol.
