    Guilted over using liturgy books??!!

Yeah. We have a mix of Greek and English speakers. First generation immigrants, as well as second and third--and the converts. It's also one reason why my son decided to be Lutheran like his father, instead of joining his mommy's church.

    Guilted over using liturgy books??!!

Yeah, the person who first told me about the priest not liking the books, was also upset about it--and she's a convert as well (by marriage). She's been in the church for years, but I don't hear her speak Greek.

    Guilted over using liturgy books??!!

Our new priest has brought back Matins, which we didn't do often before. I recently went to the last part of one, because I was going to read the Epistle and wanted to be there early. I had an English translation, but the service was all in Greek, and I was still so lost that I understood none...

    Guilted over using liturgy books??!!

I think it would be a lot easier to learn all these services if they were all in English. I can often go through a service without looking much at a book, but that doesn't mean I know what all the words mean. Though a strange thing happens when I hear a choir or a priest begin to sing one of...

    Guilted over using liturgy books??!!

Now it makes more sense. I first thought he meant ALL the liturgies. :p But if it's common in the Church to say, don't use the book so much for a liturgy you already know by heart, that makes more sense.

    Guilted over using liturgy books??!!

Okay, that makes more sense....It's hard to understand what he means by things because of the thick accent. Just wanted to know if this is a common thing in Orthodoxy. For the regular liturgy, at this point I don't need the book all the time, but with a new priest I often need to look at it...

    Guilted over using liturgy books??!!

My parish recently got a new priest, and now I've been presented with a baffling quandry: He doesn't seem to forbid the use of liturgy books, because I see people use them. But he has been totally guilting us over using them, and because we expect our priest to use a little light which tells us...

the Presence of the Lord in the Sacrament

The Orthodox don't do a special "adoration" of unconsecrated elements. They're taken in front of the church in procession, held up for a second, and we cross ourselves, then they're taken to the altar to be consecrated. After that, the Eucharist is distributed, then taken back to the altar.

How do you solve a problem like this?

Yeah....When I turned 18, I hadn't really dated before, so had no guy, no established relationship to turn into marriage. But I saw dating as what you do to find a husband, not just having fun for a while. Soon I found a boyfriend who I thought I would marry, but it turned out he was about to...

    So, I heard...

We had a couple of Orthodox friends who, instead of joining in when my husband or son said prayers over a meal, did their own prayers separately. (Hubby's Lutheran.) I found it rather insulting to my husband, actually. I don't think we should be doing that.

Why do so few Orthodox parishes have Bible studies?

I asked about this at my parish a few years back. They said that because we don't have our own priest, we can't do Bible studies. (We share our priest with another parish and the upper counties of the state.)

    Help please

The trouble is, priests are still human and not angels or God's mouthpiece. They can have their own issues while counseling you. Like for example, if my former friend had not gone so far as to commit a criminal act which has ended his chances of being ordained, his plans were to go to seminary...

    Monastic Marriage?

What would be the point of marrying, then?

Sounds familiar....I think many people don't appreciate just how much work it is to take care of a house and a child/children. :)
