Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

I'm not sure where you get your info from. Are you a member of the U.S. military or in American politics perhaps? There has been increased shelling by the Ukrainians for some weeks now in violation of Minsk. Just like the "imminent" invasion by Russia claimed by American politicians, the...

    Inspired by Icons

It depends what you mean by "recreate". If your looking to replicate icons with proper composition and proper Inscriptions then it's an icon. If you take liberties and use obscure color hues and add to the piece then it wouldn't be appropriate to pass it off as an icon.

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

There has been low intensity shelling into those regions for a few weeks now. Last week there were 2 Greeks killed and 4 wounded. In Greece this was first reported as casualties from shelling. About two days later the story changed that 4 Ukrainian soldiers just got into an argument with Greek...

    On marriage (again) Orthodox-only discussion

At this point they hand out divorce for everything and anything. I know a girl from Australia whose husband divorced her right after the honeymoon both met in church. They went to Greece to meet his parents and when they found out she has a disabled brother pressured the son to divorce her...

    Here's an odd icon question . . .

My former parish when I was young St Paul's Cathedral on Long Island enshrines two icons that shed myhrr both laminates. Most icons sold at stores are not painted. A few months ago my cousin in Greece worked for a grocery store that caught on fire everything was destroyed except for an icon of...

    Here's an odd icon question . . .

I've matted and framed icon prints before, they look beautiful. I actually printed out an icon of the ladder of divine Ascent (it was high resolution took up the whole legal sized paper) laminated it, and then got it professionally framed.

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

Those troops were hundreds of miles from the Ukraine border inside Russia. It was another completely made up out of thin air American lie. There's been plenty of western media that has even pointed this out. Last week one of these high up policymakers said Ukraine could be invaded by tomorrow...

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

No one is invading Ukraine, it's a bunch of american lies to try and disrupt the new pipeline to Germany. Unfortunately tit for tat military moves makes it look worse. We know the insane Americans love starting provocations during the Olympics. On the eve of the Beijing games U.S. state...

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

An invasion only in the demented minds of American foreign policymakers.

    On marriage (again) Orthodox-only discussion

The very fact that in the States and other diasporan jurisdictions allow non-Orthodox spouses to marry is just one canonical violation, that's one reason why it shouldn't be used. That many now marrying already have children, yet about 30 percent of the marriage ceremony is composed of...

    On marriage (again) Orthodox-only discussion

I'm talking about shelving the ceremony as it's become a secular event. And one that's become nonsensical in many instances.

    Priesthood of all believers

Also in Orthodoxy a calling involves the laity selecting you to be presented to the established clergy and ordained. When 7 deacons were first called it was not based on volunteering. It was the church itself that chose who it should be.. Acts 6: ...Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from...

    Priesthood of all believers

Ahh ok now I understand. The structure of their worship does not require much of an ordering. In Orthodoxy there is always a ranking of order. In the earliest parts of the NT the ranking was 1st apostles and the last were those who spoke in tongues 1Cor 12: 28 And God has placed in the church...

    Priesthood of all believers

I understand that as every Christian group maintains that Christ is their head and are lead by the holy Spirit. But doesnt this group have pastors or ministers? And If so what are their roles?

    Priesthood of all believers

So they do believe in a distinction between the laity and the clergy that lead them? The only group I've ever heard of that made no distinction was an American sect that existed 200 years ago where worship consisted of sitting in silence, Quakers maybe??? Of course there are teachers and...

    Priesthood of all believers

Any male can "be called" to lead a congregation. In the Orthodox church "being called" has nothing to do with an inner voice tugging at your heartstrings to lead. It means being called by your fellow congregants to get ordained. The upper clergy come from the fold of the laity. The laity and...
