Denials vs delays in prayer: How to tell the difference?

I’ve been reading through a lot of the old Puritan writings on prayer recently, specifically the works of Thomas Goodwin, Christopher Love, David Clarkson and Richard Sibbes, and the depth of their understanding and instruction on prayer have been an immense blessing to say the least. One...

Is it not God’s will or just not His time?

Amen! I am of the mind that it is not about having our prayers answered, but about God’s will being done. I want nothing other than that. It’s just that sometimes it’s hard to tell if what we’re praying for is something that God wants for us or if it’s just a really strong desire that we have...

Is it not God’s will or just not His time?

Thank you, brother. Yes, I have most definitely seen how the Lord has changed me through this. I have grown more spiritually from this than I think anything else I have been through and I am not without gratefulness to Him for that!! Praise Him! I am so sorry you have been through all that...

Is it not God’s will or just not His time?

I posted on this topic in another part of the forum, but didn’t find that the response really got to the heart of my question, so thought I would ask here to see what my Reformed brothers and sisters think. :) I understand that there is a direct relationship between our prayers and God’s will...

Not God’s time or not God’s will?

So, maybe just keep praying about this and see where He leads me?

Not God’s time or not God’s will?

Oh, yes, I always pray for God’s will to be done. That is the qualifying aspect to all of my prayers. But how do I determine if God is saying “no” to my prayers or is just making me wait? I know in Psalm 37:4 it says that if we delight ourselves in the Lord He will give us the desires of our...

Not God’s time or not God’s will?

I know this isn’t a question specifically about Baptist doctrine, but I wanted to get some advice from my Baptist brothers and sisters on a personal situation. :) Ive been praying for something for quite a while now and I have seen answers to my prayers, but I’ve also met a few roadblocks along...

Trying to avoid being jaded about marriage

I think first and foremost you need to gain a bit more maturity before even making a concrete thought on the matter. Life experience helps with this. My advice as a single, formerly jaded person is to seek God first and His thoughts on the matter. Get to know His Word as that is where all of...

    What's on your mind?

Found out something really interesting about my family tree. Some of my ancestors were Somersets from England and when you trace them back it goes all the way to John of Gaunt who was Edward III’s son. John is my direct ancestor through an illegitimate son of his who was the first Earl of...

Does God want me to let go of this guy?

Yes, I know it is hard. But just look at this as an opportunity to grow closer to God and seek His will for your life. I’ll be praying for you.

Does God want me to let go of this guy?

I can’t really offer much advice as I am in somewhat of a similar situation, but what I can say for sure is to pray about it. That’s the only thing that has kept me afloat and be assured that God does hear our prayers and He will answer in His perfect time according to His will.

    What's on your mind?

Thank you for that. That is so true, especially that last sentence. I’ve been guilty of that more times that I can count.
