Yup that's a big part of what I'm getting at.

If there's a dress code that states that skirts not be more than an inch above the knee, and those 12 or so girls are the only ones dressed that way, it's not the norm. And it IS very definitely distracting. Having had an issue in that area I often watch for guys reactions when a suggestively...

Where I actually work, no they aren't choreographed that way at all. But like I said where I work is a very small town school, we've got 630 kids k-12. in the more urban areas, where I live, yes the routines are choreographed in a rather "suggestive"(using the most polite term possible) way.

Context. At the game doing the routine, that manner of dress is expected and normal. It's like the difference between wearing a swimsuit at the beach or the pool, and wearing it at the mall. Wearing the exact same thing can be entirely different at different times and in different places.

What about women who are obviously deliberately dressing to get noticed? It seems a bit weird to me that a woman can dress and act that way on one hand and then, at the same time get all offended when guys do notice, when they perhaps stare a bit or make a comment. I'm not suggesting that...

Yes, it can, but at the same time, that condition does not necessarily completely invalidate what they may have to say on the subject.

To be fair, what Jane is describing is a professional NFL cheerleader's uniform which is more than a little bit different than a typical HS one. But at the same time, HS cheerleader uniforms have "evolved" a bit in the last 25 years.

Although you, in my own opinion, might go a little further than I would in terms of sexuality and nudity, there does seem to be a chasm between our(Christian's) views on sexuality and modesty and the idea that sex is a beautiful gift from God. All one need do is look at the results to know that...

But given the age listed in your profile, when you were in high school, it was what 25 plus years ago? Same timeframe for me but things have changed a bit in that time. I work at a school, now, a rural, rather conservative community and the uniforms are not exactly what I'd call modest although...

Ruled by and obedient to are (mis)characterizations only put forth by those who reject traditional gender roles. Those who you imply are saying those things have, on many occasions, specifically said otherwise. But, no need to let what's actually been said get in way of a good point to be made.

It was also a rather fringe position that was held by ONE man. Not a single other man here agreed with him so it might be nice if you didn't try to portray it as a problematic attitude since one person believing it can't possibly cause problems.

There's also the not insignificant issue of defining condemnation. In today's "feel good" church, too many people are way to quick to classify anything that's even the least bit hard to hear as condemnation. Even the nicest, most polite "hey Joe, have you considered what the Bible has to say...

    modesty - again

The fact that I hypocritically point out a problem behavior in you, that I also engage in, does not mean that I'm wrong or inaccurate in pointing out that behavior in you. The fact that, for example, I have a drinking problem, doesn't make me unqualified to notice and say something about...

The fact that someone making a point about someone else's life is being hypocritical doesn't mean that the point they are making is automatically invalid.

You didn't say anything to the effect of my second point in this thread hence the statement I made in parenthesies about it being an impression formed from my recollection of things you've said in other threads. I mentioned it because it is in a lot of ways related. Our puritan and victorian...

Immigration Alert: New Threat to American Jobs!

I would strongly suspect that this is looking only at LEGAL immigration because it's impossible to come up with any authoritative number of illegal immigrations.

The imminent Obamacare decision --- Forbes offers keen insights

The real question, not one of legality/constitutionality but one of financial reality, is "is the bill and it's provisions even workable from a financial standpoint without the individual mandate". Without the mandate and the additional money it brings in, costs will skyrocket in order to pay...

VERY much simplier ways. Decouple insurance from employment so as to create actual competition between insurers would go a long way toward solving the problems.

When I made the original comment, way back on page one of the thread, Hooters and tips weren't even a part of the conversation yet. The general idea, that modesty of dress is in the woman's best interest because the attention and type of men that immodest dress attracts are not good for her...

Actually when I said it was for their own good I was more thinking that the attention they'd get or the men they'd attract that way are not really in their best interests.
