    Aggresion

Just a quick update. My son has now been of the ritalin for 3 weeks now and has reduced the respiradol to 1/2mg. He is a much happier boy and is not as easily frustrated. However he is louder than before. He is also sleeping better with only only 1/2 a tablet which I find strange as it does make...

Sensory Processing Issues on the Spectrum

Brushing techniques combined wiith joint compression ( ask your OT for advice ) has worked with my son. The problem is it needs to be regular 3-4 times a day. This is where it fails. However during holidays and unwell days it has been a really useful calming technique.

In the bible Luke was a Dr and Im sure they had some sort of herbal medications that were used for Various conditions. You are taking medication for the right reasons. Our son has ADHD and High functioning Autism. We found that Dex......(cant spelll the rest) tended to keep him awake more and reduced his petite hugley. This was a big problem for him as he is already underweight. We then tried Ritalin with is also a stimulant. This worked much better but the...

    Experienced condemnation ?

It is difficult when others cannot understand Autism as they do not see anything physically wrong. It is even more difficult when that hurt comes from your own family. ((((big Hug))) Many family members go through denial and Shock as part over their greiving process and it may be that over time...

    Aggresion

as far as the meds go...that will be painstaking trial and error...and nothing else will work...but the plus side to that is that there are so many different things you can try that if one thing doesn't work simply keep going until you find something that does. The other part of that is if you...

My husband has AS and he struggles with crowds. Not just becasue of the conversation difficulty but the overwhelaming sensations it can give him. Some other ideas that I thought of that we used with our son when he was younger are building with lego. We used duplo first as the smaller one was to difficult. This helps alot with strengthening the finger jooints the OT tols us. Also squezzy balls for excersising the fingers and hands. Using...

HFA & behavior at school advice needed

My son is in grade 4 this year and has spent most of the year making things like a kindergarden child and writing stories which were barley readable. Autistic spectrum problems (smaller problems in it)

My son (HFA) now 10 had quite delayed fine motor skills. He still struggles with writing and his hand gets tired quickly. This year he has finnaly taken to a more acceptable pencil grasp which enables his writing to be more clearer. As far as I know this is fairly common.

    Aggresion

Reading all these has been both useful and scary. I can understand that the owrld is a frightening and threatning plaace for an autistic person particularly a child. I can see the things that freak him out and the situations that are difficult. I do my best to equip him for those difficulties. I...

    High Functioning Autism

I used to think the same when my son was 4 and could not speak. I had this goal that If I can just get him to communicate all our troubles and his frustration would be over. Dont get me wrong, at 5 as he began to talk and 6 as it improved there wasnt the constant tantruming that we had gone...

    High Functioning Autism

Wow. That was real useful. We did the same thing, we enrolled him into mainstream as his language and social skills increased. He did ok for 1 yr but in year 4 (age 10) he has had a real hard time. His writing is poor and it hurts his hand so he doesnt like it much. I dont know if he even knows...

    Are vaccines linked to autism?

I found that article on the Amish most interesting. IT only confirmed for me the feeling I had towards the vaccinations. Not that I feel that people shpouldnt vaccinate full stop but be aware especially if there is already knowledge in the family of Autsim. My son stopped talking and was clearly...

    Experienced condemnation ?

It is good to hear that others have been able to move through the position of being condemned. I do the same and chose carefully who I can discuss things with and who I cant.

    High Functioning Autism

That is useful, thankyou. The problem I have is because he is quite behind in his comprehension and behaviour. He is more like 6 then 10 and yet talks more like 8 and it is so unbalanced that we find it tricky to know really what his level is at.
