Things I Wish I Had Known as a First-time Mom [open]

    1. Sleep whenever you can - 5 or 10 minutes here and there make a HUGE cumulative difference 2. If something is important to you, don't give in, unless and until you feel right about it - regrets can last a long time... 3. try not to defend your parenting choices - "we've decided to do it that...

    VBAC Anyone??

Congratulations on your success - that IS encouraging for us VBAC-ers! I thought I'd add some comments anyway, in case anyone else needs them... Actually, the chance is usually less than1% - but it depends a bit on individual circumstances, of course. Yep - pitocin and other labor...

Not as scary as the first time you accidentally leave the baby in the car... ;-)

Yes sir, No sir, Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am...

In the UK the only time kids use 'Sir' and (usually) 'Miss' or (occasionally) 'M'am' is when addressing teachers in school! In my experience kids are more than sophisticated enough socially to grasp that there are different rules for different situations - and apply them appropriately, when...

Thanks! Yep - the technology has even come a long way since I had my first 4.5 years ago. It is truly amazing. The 4D is like a moving sepia photograph - we saw it sucking its thumb. Ahhhhhh VBAC (vee-back) = vaginal birth after cesarean. The number indicates how many sections the person has...

Hi everyone  Sorry it's been so long - I have been praying for you all, but I've been using my online time to do research into VBA2C (basically: avoiding yet another cesarean section) because that is really important to me, for all kinds of rational and irrational reasons. I'm going to...

That's one of the many things I like about Sinterklaas - because it is in early Dec it keeps the whole thing separate from Christmas - which in our family is about Jesus... ;-) Sleep tight, everyone! PS Family service at church went really well - thank you for your prayers.

Dear silly American goober, Sinterklaas is the original dude y'all get Santa Claus from. 'Creche' is like day care, but for during the church service, in the church building somewhere - what do you call that? Call me an old European, but what's a goober? Anna x Sinterklaas, as you can see...

Actually I have a prayer request: this Sunday that tiny church I'm in the Parish council for is having a 'Family Service' especially for advent. That means a revised and child-friendly order of service, coffee and cake afterwards and me running a creche for the first time ever (for the church...

Sojourning in Luxembourg, for now. But we have Dutch heritage, so we do it on 5th, not 6th like in Germany. Kids left carrots and water for Sinterklaas last night, and found their presents this morning, to great excitement. There was also a letter from Sint praising them for lots of things and...

    VERY faint line!!! But.......

:prayer: and  I am hesitant to say this, because getting hopes up further when they could be dashed is... irresponsible? But when I had this, I got a BFP 5 days later (my first). It could be implantation cramps and bleeding - but it could be the slow arrival of AF. May God give you...

    Finding Out...

we've never found out, because the really wanting to know, but not, is part of the fun for us. We feel blessed with whatever comes, and we'll know for the rest of our lives, so in that context, I can make myself wait a few months. I have never been able to spot anything on the scans... And we...

 again everyone! Sorry it has been awhile; I've been busy and trying to avoid 'losing' 5 mins here and 10 mins there on CF :sorry: Cristianna and Criada - I don't think it is a coincidence at all. I think the 'clean up' IS the getting mature bit - afterwards is the fruits of the labour ...

    I'm scared...

It is probably a good thing we are not in control - our bodies know better than we do what needs to happen, try to trust your body. Everyone I know says prayer helps. I second the doula thing too, I know it would have helped me. And one final thought from someone who hasn't yet labored...
