    Potty training

I let my children guide me as to when to start potty training. In my mind, I had the vague idea of between the ages of 2-3 to start daytime potty training, and 3-4 to start nighttime potty training, but it wasn't set in stone. Isabel probably started around 22-months, when she became...

    Using bleach

I never use bleach, period, but would especially never use it on children's bottles or toys. I boiled bottles without any solution, and vinegar is good to use for toys, but since the house ends up smelling like a fish and chip shop, use tea tree oil afterwards to counteract the smell; plus tea...

    Preferring pumping to actual breastfeeding?

I personally found pumping easier and less time consuming. With baby #1 I was breast-feeding every 45-minutes at one stage, because she kept falling asleep at the breast, I couldn't wake her up, I'd put her down to sleep, then she'd scream her head off, I'd put her back on, the same thing would...

What vegetable's do your kids eat?

My kids love all kinds of vegetables. An great alternative we have to chips/fries are sweet potato chips cooked in extra virgin olive oil. So it's a vegetable with lots of great benefits, cooked in a healthy oil (unlike most of the vegetable oils used in shops). I think that they taste better...

    good vampire books

Or, you know, exist :P So an author can portray them however they wish. Twilight doesn't use a lot of the standard vampire lore, since the author doesn't read or watch vampire books or movies, which is probably why I like it so much. I like reading about vampires, but am a bit of a wuss when...

    Rice Allergies in Babies

This article talks about an Australian study that reveals "rice can trigger a rare but severe allergic reaction in babies and toddlers." I'm mentioning this here, as so often some form of rice is a first food for babies. I personally went with sweet potatoes and other vegetables rather than...

    anyone reading the Twilight series?

To each their own, Mr Jack :) I personally didn't pick up on the mistakes that you've mentioned in the several times that I've read each book, but everyone has their own perspective. As to why a girl would run down a dark alleyway. Panic and fear can make people do illogical things...

Flouride in the Brisbane water - your thoughts

Some interesting links on professionals who were pro-fluoridationists, but became anti-fluoridationists when seriously looking into both sides of the issue. Because unfortunately, many within the medical community are content with what the ADA and AMA have to say, and it doesn't go beyond that...

Flouride in the Brisbane water - your thoughts

Part Two: The less exposure to tap water thing is a crock. The people in the group with the most dental caries, with a lower income, are less likely to be able to afford bottled water. Of the two studies that have actual been done to determine the affect of bottled water on tooth decay, one...

Flouride in the Brisbane water - your thoughts

I posted this on another forum, but a lot of the points are valid here: Part One: I posted this on another forum, but a lot of the points are valid here: If you don't have the time to read about this matter, please watch these videos: Dr Bill Osmunson. The short version, five minutes, by a...

Have any of your little ones had surgery?

For me it was a comfort, but I guess it's different for eveyone. I would have been more upset at the thought of Lily scared and confused surrounded by strangers, whereas this way I was at least there to hold her hand as she drifted off. I wonder why they didn't let you guys in? I guess each...

Have any of your little ones had surgery?

Lily had a hernia, and at about ten months had an operation to fix it. It was day surgery, they let me in with her when she was getting the gas so I could hold her hand, the procedure took half an hour, we waited there for an hour after that to see how she went, and the next day she was running...

Films you are looking forward to this year

Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince, but the movie I look forward to the most is the adaption of the book "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer. That's coming out in the US in December, hopefully we won't have to wait much longer than that down this way.

Has anyone read the first chapter of "Breaking Dawn", which was released as a part of the "Eclipse" special edition? It's made me want "Breaking Dawn" even more. Is it August yet???

    Adoptee Question

I am also adopted. When I first began researching my family tree as a teenager, I only knew of my adoptive family's ancestry. When I found my biological family, I've researched that ancestry too. While I consider all of them my family, and still research the ancestry of my adoptive family, when...

    Pet Sounds (vocal tracks only)

Thank you so much for posting this, radhead. The Beach Boys are one of my favourite bands, and Brian Wilson is especially awesome. Edit: I hadn't listened to all of them when I first posted, now I have and, yay, "God Only Knows" is there, which is my favourite Beach Boys song. It gives me...

What do you think of southern accents ?

I've only heard a few southern accents over here, my BIL is actually from Texas (and manages to do a remarkably good Australian accent too), his accent is pretty nice, but I think I prefer softer southern accents. Some are a bit much. I so wish I could pull off y'all with an Australian accent...
