    What do you say when...

I think it truly is the thought and the spirit behind the gift that counts... I have an example of when a gift was given in totally the wrong spirit : My BIL and the kids wanted a lapdog really bad. His wife was clear that she DID NOT want a dog because she knew she'd be the one saddled...

How would you have handled this?

Did you talk to him about how much he might have hurt the cat? How sick the cat might have gotten? Explained to him that the cat could have died from his actions? This doesn't have to be a loud or harsh conversation, but it's a conversation that I definitely would have had. Not a lecture...a...

How do you punish your children?

We don't hit our children at all...grrr. Neither do we use time-outs or other traditional "punishments"...we're a non-punitive family. We use natural consequences when a consequence is necessary. Natural consequences are not a parentally imposed punishment...it's just the natural...

What do you do with a hitter?

I do not believe that hitting the child teaches them not to hit. It teaches them to fear you. It teaches them that a bigger person hitting a smaller person works. It teaches them that "might makes right." What it does NOT do is to help them understand why hitting is wrong. It does not help...

What vegetable's do your kids eat?

We're a really veggie family...we very rarely eat any meat at all...so my girls have always been offered lots of different veggie choices. They each have a few they dislike, but they both love actual veggies...not the over processed "fake" veggies. French fries, and potatoes in general, are...

    Leaving your children alone

Nope, not even for a second. My kids are 7 and 10, and I don't even leave them alone in the car to get gas. If I can't pay at the pump, they come inside with me. I'm from a small country town where people leave their kids in the car all the time, just to run in and pay for gas or whatever...

Redguard cordially invites you to the 4th annual marriage ministries potluck

Last year was a miserable experience for both of them. The amount of homework and their obvious struggles with the teaching methods were motivating factors. The straw that broke the camels back was the night my 9 year old brought home 240 multiplication write offs because she had missed...
