Oh I'm happy Daryl is still alive! If the world comes to an end you need somebody like him, Carol & Michonne!

I like Carl. He's my age so I find him more relatable in a way.

Do you think there are Christian themes to TWD? I read something where people were talking about it having some biblical analogies.

If you search "Bishop Barron" on YouTube, you'll find a channel of a Catholic bishop that talks about biblical themes in seemingly secular films.

They aren't lame or obscure films either. On the list are movies like Fargo, Apocalypto and others.

If you're interested in his analysis, just watch the movies first. He talks in depth and would spoil the film for you.

Thanks! I'll look that up now. That sounds really interesting! :)

I just saw the last episode of Sherlock with friends. Well that season was awesome but also very poignant - and quite hard. Last episode both horrified and amazed me, however I am truly happy I did not watch it alone. I think I would still be crying or shaking if I did.
That was a great ending, we finally really discover Mycroft and Sherlock truly prooved his humanity. And Cumberbatch was more than extraordinary, as always.

Sorry about my response ^. I read back over and realised I pretty much glossed over your post to segue into my own.

I'm not a huge fan of the SNL type humour, from what little I've seen on YT. They did do a really funny sketch with Steve Buscemi a few years ago, though

I've never watched a whole episode of SNL so Idk how humourous it is beyond the opening skit & the newsroom update. I think the whole show is like an hour and a half long or something. I just watch the videos of the opening & the news on YT. They've been hilarious lately. I'll try to see if I can find the funny sketch you're talking about. :)

I won't call that a show, but I just watched the 2016 (BBC) adaptation of War and Peace and I am still deeply moved.
I read the book a few years ago (I had a Russian literature period, I think I will have a new one right now) and heard excellent things about this adaptation, so I decided to judge by myself - that was wonderful.
I think I did not watch something that beautiful for a long long time. I know I say that all the time, but there I remained silent for almost an hour after finishing it. So I guess it is serious.

I cried many times, without having to force it or realizing it. The dance between Nastasha and Andrei, the way they showed Andrei's death, Pierre starving in prison - sharing some bread with a peasant, the relationship that seems like an evidence between Maria and Nikolaï... As someone fond of Tolstoï, I found that "melancholic beauty" in it. It is very hard and broken hearting, but deeply intense. Colors, costumes, lights, music, the way it was filmed, everything is meticulous. The actors seem like they were born for their roles, the three lead roles were perfect, I admired the focus on the eyes of the characters.
I call that a masterpiece, it joined the list of the wonders of the cinema world.

I HIGHLY recommand it. With Pride & Prejudice, best work of the BBC so far.

Many friends have raved about how the adaptation is visually scrumptious while being mentally stimulating, and your post definitely renewed my desire to watch it. I'll have long flights during spring break, and that sounds like the perfect way to spend some of the time. Thanks for your review. :)

I hope you're having a beautiful time in Paris.

I started Legion with Dan Stevens - our beloved Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey. I only saw the first episode yet, I like a lot the way they use the camera, and of course Stevens is excellent and adorable. In fact, the main couple is adorable. This is a very original (very human in fact) approach for a Marvel, but it is really good. I hope the rest of the show will be as good as the first episode.

I'm sure this has been done to death, but I'm also sure another thread couldn't hurt

Personally, I'm not sure what I like more out of Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. You're doing yourself a disservice by not watching them In my opinion. Sentimentally, I love the Simpsons

Agreed. Love Breaking Bad & GOT. Best shows in history IMO. I love the Simpsons too, lol. It's just fun.

Downton Abbey is scrumptious. It's like the television version of the experience of having a delicious high tea with your favorite companions in an elegant rose garden on the most blissfully beautiful of days. Which characters are your favorites?

That versi of Pride & Prejudice seems like the gold standard for Jane Austen adaptations. One of these days I'll actually watch it. I read the Bridget Jones' Diary book series for fun a couple of years ago, and she humorously obsesses over Colin Firth in it. Of course, Helen Fielding based the book series on Pride & Prejudice, and Colin Firth is in the movie adaptations. :)

I've only watched a couple of episodes of True Detective and was multitasking so much that I couldn't focus enough to appreciate it. I need to give it another shot. I wish the person who created this thread, GoDenver1, was still an active member because he wrote some insightful posts about the show, both earlier in this thread, and in this one:

My girlfriend really loved that show, Downton Abbey. Can't say I'm as much of a fan but it's not bad. Now I really do like True Detective.

A very belated welcome to you. :)

Have you watched any episodes of the Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul? I'll be spending an incredible amount of time on planes this summer, and am trying to pick a couple of shows to binge watch to pass the time. The few episodes of BCS I've watched have been satisfyingly entertaining, so I think it's a winner.

I'm still debating watching a sufficient amount of Game of Thrones to have a semblance of a clue about the current story arcs before the new highly anticipated new season debuts this summer. It had been my intent to watch more of it last year to be able to grasp the ubiquitous pop culture references, but I never made it beyond a few episodes of season 1. What I saw of it was compelling, but I sort of develop an attention deficiency when I watch anything but Jeopardy and the news ----- unless I'm on a plane and can't go wandering about. There was a bit of drama in this section about GOT, but it would be interesting to discuss it somewhere else and maybe get a primer so I can dive into the new season without watching all the past ones, haha. @Saucy was just telling me about how much he LOVES it (an all-caps kinda love). Maybe a thread could be started outside of the teen section to discuss it. :)

Just checking in again. I still think TD season 1 is one of the best TV shows I've seen. Unfortunately season 2 wasn't very good. It was all over the place and didn't quite have 'it' like the first season. There's apparently a season 3 renewed, so hopefully they'll get back to what made the first so good. If anyone here enjoyed TD, then you'll probably like the film 'Se7en' starring Brad Pitt. (Or if pressed for time, maybe check out the movie first).

I stopped watching GoT halfway through the fifth season after getting bored with it, and I still haven't caught up.

For some reason I still watch the Walking a Dead, but I doubt I'll bother with the next season. It's really boring now (for me).

I watch more movies than TV shows, but Fargo is by far my favourite show right now (or 'It's always Sunny' if we include SitComs). The first season of Fargo was awesome and I'd highly recommend it. It uses the 1996 film as a foundation, but definitely goes off in it's own direction.

By the way GoBraves, Atlanta suck :p

I agree with you on everything here, except for that part about Atlanta sucking. Though their last World Series win was before we were born, so maybe you've got a point about that too. I'm still gonna be loyal, born and bred to be.

Game of Thrones lost its steam around season 5 but I think the new season will be great. The Walking Dead has been pretty hit or miss for me. Loved season 1. Season 2 - I think that was the one where half of it was spent on a freeway. We changed our cable plan and don't get that channel anymore. Can't say that I feel like I'm missing out on too much. I think that's what Fargo is on too. I've streamed the older seasons. It's good. Never saw the movie from the 90s, but I'll have to look for it on Netflix.

A very belated welcome to you. :)

A belated thank you for that welcome. I enjoy your posts. Read this 1 when my battery was about to die so I just replied to Godenver, then plum forgot to come back and reply to you. Sorry about that.

I have seen it, it's a good show. I haven't watched the last season because we changed our cable plan, no longer get the channel it's on. I think Breaking Bad has more action to it, but I still think Better Call Saul is pretty good.

I'm still debating watching a sufficient amount of Game of Thrones to have a semblance of a clue about the current story arcs before the new highly anticipated new season debuts this summer. I don't think I see eye to eye with @Saucy on a lot of things, but I have to say I'm totally with him on having "all-caps kinda love" for Game of Thrones. Some seasons weren't nearly as good as others but still I think it's about the best show there is. If you're going to be flying a lot that's the perfect time to watch it since a lot of airlines have it with their in flight entertainment. Well, at least Delta does. My dad's a pilot for them, I watched the first few seasons on flights because we didn't have HBO with our cable plan.

There was drama about GOT in this section? Now, I can understand that plenty of folks don't like the show, it doesn't float their boat or whatever. I don't see any reason for drama about it. Never heard of anybody being forced to watch it. If you like it, you watch it. If you don't, you don't. Simple as that. Sorry to hear there was drama.
