WASHINGTON — President Obama on Tuesday largely commuted the remaining prison sentence of Chelsea Manning, the army intelligence analyst convicted of an enormous 2010 leak that revealed American military and diplomatic activities across the world, disrupted the administration, and made WikiLeaks, the recipient of those disclosures, famous.

Now, under the terms of Mr. Obama’s commutation announced by the White House on Tuesday, Ms. Manning is set to be freed on May 17 of this year, rather than in 2045.

Does Manning still have his male parts?

Edit:

Fox News' Bret Baier said that Manning didn't actually have the surgery yet. So that answers my question about it. It's possible that him changing the way he identifies himself could have been a ploy to get support from the LGBT lobby and sympathy from Obama. So it's possible that Manning could change his mind. But we'll see whether or not he does.

I disagree with this. I find Edward Snowden's motives to be more in line with serving the general public whereas Manning seemed to have, for the most part, done it out of spite.

But the release of Chelsea Manning is more in line with Obama's worldview.

The Obama Administration wanted to throw away the key on Snowden.

The Obama Administration wanted to throw away the key on Snowden.

The government had to take a heavy-handed approach when it happened for a second time. The fact it did happen a second time was likely enough to have at least made others consider doing it, especially so when you consider that, by and large, Snowden has mostly only received gratitude for his sacrifice in informing the American people as well as the global community.

If anyone was to be pardoned then I'd have hoped it'd have been Snowden.

Such is life.

I have mixed feelings. I feel compassion regarding Chelsea Mannings circumstances and I don't think he is as bright as Snowden.

What bothers me regarding Snowden is that a blog I read from a former CIA, NSA spook states that Snowden absolutely was an asset of the FSA aka KGB.

If this true than I hope they put him in a dark cell.
Think about it, Putin is KGB through and through, why would he protect Snowen if he wasn't an asset.

Snowden states that he gave nothing to the Russians. Putin would have made quick work of Snowden if this were true.

Because he's a card in a complex game whose value changes with the game at hand.

At the basest level, harbouring Snowden was defiance of the big bad America. Putin is a fan favourite among a lot of Russians and things like that earn him a lot of points.

My understanding is that he was diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder before the intelligence leak.

Snowden has seemed torn by his choices, in his limited interviews he strikes me as a person who had some real internal struggle on how to deal with the situation
Manning on the other hand just seems spiteful, I never really associated that word with him before you used it, but it fits like a glove, well said

I have mixed feelings. I feel compassion regarding Chelsea Mannings circumstances and I don't think he is as bright as Snowden.
defiantly not as bright

??? How can they label this a "disorder" when they champion this idea that everybody can "choose" their gender, and it's perfectly normal? A Freudian slip, perhaps, in which they inadvertently admit that transgenderism is a mental illness? Hmmm.....interesting. Well. Sorry for the interruption; please return to the discussion of the current lunacy.

That's just what I found online. Maybe it was before they stopped calling it a disorder.
