I'm proud to say I didn't watch a single minute. From the highlights I've seen on the various news shows, it looks like it was a waste of time. 90 minutes on a stage should play 0% in anyone's decision.

That is the exact percentage it got from me the night it aired. I honestly go not know how anybody could take this freak show seriously.

While I sometimes see suggestions here that priests should use bully pulpits to save Catholic souls I believe most Catholics are rightly repelled by bullies. Jesus acknowledged human dignity--and Catholics agree.

I don't think bully pulpit means what you think it means.

NCR is beyond delusional on it's analysis.

Trump was reduced to incoherence seeming to contradict himself one sentence to the next by the end of the debate. It was confusing and cringe-worthy to watch (or in my case listen to as I as canning tomatoes at the time).

He interrupted Ms. Clinton 22 or 23 times (I forget the count) sniffled like a guy who had just done a pound of coke, was dismissive, snide and condescending and that was before he became incoherent.

He actually had Ms. Clinton on her heels for about the first 15 minutes but couldn't hold it together.

He never said anything of substance, never put one policy on the table, never even showed that he knew how the government works. Ms. Clinton gave paragraph answers on policy and explanations as to how they would be implemented.

Sorry NCR but you're obviously in the tank for Trump.

Which, Mikey I'm talking to you, is kind of proof that the Church (or at least it's representatives) are partisan.

Don't confuse NCR with the Church. We have the Vatican, the USCCB, and of course our individual Bishops. They are trustworthy sources. The NCR, PFL, EWTN - these all seem to be primarily partisan political organisations which operate with some level of Church official involvement, but they are most assuredly not "the Church" nor do they always honestly and accurately reflect the Church's positions.

Here's a good summary of it from the article:

"While there were substantive issues addressed, including taxes, cyber-security, race relations and nuclear proliferation, much of the time centered on such topics as Trump’s taxes, President Obama’s birth certificate and Trump’s alleged treatment of women. Clinton clearly had the strategy of trying to provoke Trump with barbs and personal attacks. Her rival generally kept his cool, but he was far from perfect, missing several opportunities to exploit Clinton’s weakness on her emails and her record as secretary of state."

This is basically a contest between the change candidate (Trump) vs. the establishment/status quo candidate (Clinton). The following were some of Donald Trump's best moments of the debate:

Trump: And, Hillary, I'd just ask you this. You've been doing this for 30 years. Why are you just thinking about these solutions right now? For 30 years, you've been doing it, and now you're just starting to think of solutions.

Trump: When they formed, when they formed, this is something that never should have happened. It should have never happened. Now, you're talking about taking out ISIS. But you were there, and you were secretary of state when it was a little infant. Now it's in over 30 countries. And you're going to stop them? I don't think so.

Trump: But I will tell you that Hillary will tell you to go to her website and read all about how to defeat ISIS, which she could have defeated by never having it, you know, get going in the first place. Right now, it's getting tougher and tougher to defeat them, because they're in more and more places, more and more states, more and more nations.

TRUMP: You know, Hillary is hitting me with tremendous commercials. Some of it's said in entertainment. Some of it's said -- somebody who's been very vicious to me, Rosie O'Donnell, I said very tough things to her, and I think everybody would agree that she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her.

But you want to know the truth? I was going to say something...

HOLT: Please very quickly.

TRUMP: ... extremely rough to Hillary, to her family, and I said to myself, "I can't do it. I just can't do it. It's inappropriate. It's not nice." But she spent hundreds of millions of dollars on negative ads on me, many of which are absolutely untrue. They're untrue. And they're misrepresentations.

And I will tell you this, Lester: It's not nice. And I don't deserve that.

But it's certainly not a nice thing that she's done. It's hundreds of millions of ads. And the only gratifying thing is, I saw the polls come in today, and with all of that money...

HOLT: We have to move on to the final question.

TRUMP: ... $200 million is spent, and I'm either winning or tied, and I've spent practically nothing.

Bernie Goldberg said that a tough question that the moderator could have asked Hillary is whether she is for or against late term abortions. It would be a tough question for her because most people are against them, but Hillary has made it clear that she is 100% committed to Planned Parenthood. I think she would have danced around it with a vague answer. It's one of the ways that her ideology is directly opposed to the Catholic understanding that abortion is murder.

I wonder why Mr Trump, and to a lesser extent, Ms Clinton, so often refused to answer the questions asked them (which were good questions that I really wanted to see answered) and instead resorted to tangential talking points. I have a hard time respecting adults who are such cowards that they refuse to answer direct questions.

"To a lesser extent, Ms Clinton" because the moderator didn't prepare tough questions for her.

But Trump did answer all of the questions that were asked of him.

To claim Trump kept is cool is delusional

This is basically a contest between the change candidate (Trump) vs. the establishment/status quo candidate (Clinton). The following were some of Donald Trump's best moments of the debate:

Trump: And, Hillary, I'd just ask you this. You've been doing this for 30 years. Why are you just thinking about these solutions right now? For 30 years, you've been doing it, and now you're just starting to think of solutions.

Clinton has been in government for 30 years working the process and thinking about solution. Trump ?
He's been going beauty contests and reality shows.

Trump: When they formed, when they formed, this is something that never should have happened. It should have never happened. Now, you're talking about taking out ISIS. But you were there, and you were secretary of state when it was a little infant. Now it's in over 30 countries. And you're going to stop them? I don't think so.

Actually a lie combined with ignorance. ISIS was in it's infancy under Bush when the were called the Bathist party in Iraq. The war spilled them everywhere. Also, in case no one has notice, we're actually winning the war against ISIS on the battlefield.

A statement the doesn't match the facts. On this board facts are negotiable. Out in the world, no so much. Oh, and a lie too, ISIS was formed by the Iraq war which was hardly Clinton's fault.

Completely incoherent, off point, and why drag Ms. O'Donnell into the presidential debate ? And everybody doesn't agree that she deserves to be called a pig.

But you want to know the truth? I was going to say something...

HOLT: Please very quickly.

Also completely incoherent, what is he talking about ?[/QUOTE]

I think Trump took the first half and Clinton took the second. I am disappointed in my guy because he allowed his opponent to bait him into focusing on himself but he will probably learn from it. I think Trump was ill prepared as well . But Trump at his worst tied with Clinton at her best. I still have confidence in him.

He's easily baited because of his thin skin and narcissism two things that aren't going to change.

And I don't know where you got that last statement from but Trump can't get above about 40-42% and Clinton seems to have a built in 7 point advantage in the tracking polls since July.

He's got a serious problem.

Well we shall see. That last statement was my own opinion whic i hold in extremely high esteem. Not based on any polls.

I agree that Trump won the first half of the debate.

Hillary Clinton's main strategy was to bait him.

And that's what brought the debate down in the second half.

But Trump did answer all of the questions that were asked of him.

Let's test that. I have a list of questions that I didn't see him answer (I suspect because he is a blowhard and far too much of a coward to directly answer questions that he fears will make him look bad, his ego can't take that) We'll start with Mr Holt asking Mr Trump what he meant when he said that Ms Clinton doesn't have "a Presidential look". Do you recall Mr Trump's answer to that question? Go ahead and share it, please.
