Down loaded the Anniversary up-date the other day; it took about three hrs; but part of that was getting the latest Windows and HP software up-dates at the same time. It all went thru fine; and altho I haven't looked at or used any of the new features because most of them were for Cortana; everything still works OK.

Except; the text under the icons on the desktop have went to a smaller size; I seem to remember a way of changing them back to the larger size; anyone know how to do this?

use -> Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display
You can then adjust the icon size or text size of sub components as you wish.

Thanks for the help; I finally remembered where I heard about how to do this; in my own thread from last year on Chrome!:rolleyes: I used to have a memory; but I forgot where I put it. Ha!:)

I went through settings/system/display/advanced display settings/advanced sizing of text and other items/ That opens to a page with: change size of items; where you can change your display aspect ratio; and "set a custom scaling level" don't mess with this unless you know what you are doing; I tried it on my old LT and it caused the video driver to crash.

Finally I found "change only text size" where you have a box that opens up and you can change text sizes for various things; one of them being "icons" it also can change the text size for; title boxes, menus, message boxes, title bars, palette titles, and tool tips, what ever that means.

One of these also controls the size of the text in the tabs on browsers; title bars I think; Chrome and SlimJet anyway as that is what I use.

We bought a cheap new laptop yesterday for half what it costs in the US. The price was reduced because it has Windows 8.1, and the free upgrade has expired. After the usual hassle getting rid of McAfee anti-virus, it runs well.

But five of the ten people who walk their dogs at the lake every morning told me that they had taken their Windows 10 computers to a computer shop to get either 7 or 8. So they think I got a bargain.

How much was it;as it would have to be pretty cheap; the HP Laptop that I got for Christmas cost about $300 (was a gift so don't know for sure) and 3 months ago was on sale at bestbuy for $259; with Win10 pre installed. Win 10 is worth half of what that LT cost.

Large sample size there; but at least half were smart enough to keep Win10. The problem Win7 owners (I had 4or5 Win 7 machines over the years; they all worked good till the Ram memory started filling up the virtual swap file) have now; is Win 7 can't run App's from MS's store; so they are stuck with what they have unless they want to buy from a third party old programs (apps) out of date. At least 8 & 8.1 still can run them; cause under the skin they are pretty much the same as 10.

I paid $140 US for it. It sells for $290 in the US. Usually, laptops in Mexico cost double what they cost in the US.

Granted, 10 is not a big sample, plus it only represents retired Gringos living in Mexico. But a 50% rejection rate still says something.

Me? I like windows 10. But I also liked Windows 8.1, and since the kids are using it to go on the web and to play simple games, Windows 8 isn't a problem
