You're dead on. Van Halen was what the stoners, cool kids, and just about every other person liked. Yes, Rush, Steely Dan, Toto, Asia, and all the stuff I like was nerdsville! LOL Funny thing is about ten years ago Rush actually became a more widely-known, liked band. Dave Grohl, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, was the guy who inducted Rush into the HOF. He put up that the funny "kimonos" picture I have here on my signature and joked about Rush being the greatest progressive band of all time and yet having the guts to dress like that! LOL. Then he said, "and by the way, when the $%!# did Rush actually become cool anyway!?" The audience busted up!

In elementary school I was with a group of guys that liked Iron Maiden, Dio, Ratt, Sabbath, Ozzy, all that stuff. I was like a stoner who didn't use drugs! ROFL!

Then in high school I got "civilized" with progressive rock! LOL.

Now I'm super ecclectic. My CD's in my car range from Dio to Stevie Ray Vaughan to Sabbath to Journey to Three Doors Down! LOL

The absolute coolest thing I ever did in the eyes of my schoolmates (and I was never cool - we moved around WAY too much so I kind of quit trying very early on) ... but I just felt like taking a white t-shirt and I drew a large Van Halen emblem across the back, then covered the whole rest of the shirt with smaller emblems of all my favorite bands. What messed me up though when I wore it to school was that everyone wanted to sign it, and that wasn't what I had in mind. Well, that and the fact that I didn't distinguish between permanent ink and the kind that washes out, so I never was able to wash it.
