Visit our site on CF. Other Calvary Chapel folks will be glad to answer your questions. I attend a Calvary Chapel church. I don't think of us as Charismatic, as I have attended Charismatic churches in the past. But speak to others on the site and judge for yourself.

Chuck Smith made a distinction between Charismatic and Charismania.
It seems the difference is in one's focus.
If one is focused on the gifts rather than the Gift Giver then one is Charismania.
Calvary Chapels are Charismatic, their focus is more on the Gift Giver not the gifts.

Thinking about this a little more. Calvary Chapel (Costa Mesa-others differ somewhat) used to be a little more charismatic than now, but when John Wimbur (Vineyard) broke away from the Calvary Chapel movement (in the '70's) he took some of the more charismatic wing with him.

CC's are Bapticostals, merging the emphasis on the Bible of Baptists with the belief that all the Spiritual gifts are for today like Pentecostals. The main difference between most charismatic churches and the CC movement is that the service does not include speaking in tongues. Some CC's do have what they call "afterglow services" where people are invited, one at a time, to speak in tongues and see if anyone has an interpretation, and if anyone has a prophecy they are free to speak as well. All very Biblical.

NOTWHATIWAS is right. I've attended Calvary Chapel churches since 1977 and they're not charismatic. Chuck Smith left the Foursquare Church because he disagreed with them on that, among other things. Some of you should read his book Calvary Chapel Distinctives, because you're generalizing. :swoon:
