"Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments".

Matthew 22:37-40
NIV

The above two commandments are the Law of God, but as Christ said "all the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments...

Think hard about and closely examine the Ten Commandments and you will see that the first four are about loving God, and the last six about loving people...

More laws were added usually when one of the ten commandments were not adhered to, or broken...

Kind of like "Do not steal" but someone steals and some form of punishment then becomes necessary, but circumstances matter and so, in American law and justice for example, the circumstances and magnitude under/to which one stole, leaves us to create laws for different circumstances under which one steals, like theft one, theft two, theft three, and so on with different less or more severe consequences under the circumstances under which one stole...

This is like the I think it is 614 or 615 laws that came about in ancient Israel were usually due to a violation under which the circumstances had to be addressed of one of the original Ten Commandments...

So, all of these are the laws of God, and they are all wrapped up and simplified in the two that Jesus spoke of...

God Bless!

It is actually less requirements of the law than this said here. And there was no one individual that was subject to all of them, many of the requirements were for very specific cases not applying to everyone. Other requirements are of moral responsibility that is universally required. I don't think Jesus was eliminating commandments with saying they are based on those two great commandments, nothing he is shown to have said anywhere else supports that. Believers should be motivated from the heart for such, this is what there is with love for Yahweh God and for others. It is sacrificing and what need there is to kill animals, with what things are involved with that, which is eliminated with Christ coming for what is made available to us.

Which is the Law of God?

The Old Testament? The New Testament? Or the Gospel?...

The Law of God taught byJesus Christ

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets" (Matthew 7:12)

What God wants is the mercy

"If you had known what this means, I want mercy and not sacrifice, you wouldn’t have condemned the innocent" (Matthew 12:7)

Jesus speaks to the pharisees about the Law

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had left the Sadducees speechless, they met together. One of them, a legal expert, tested him. Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law? He replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands” (Matthew 22:34-40)

Jesus teaches to a rich man, the precepts of the Law

"And behold, one came to him and said, Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why askest thou me concerning that which is good? One there is who is good: but if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honor thy father and mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I observed: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful; for he was one that had great possessions" (Matthew 19:16-22)

These are the commandments of the Gospel, which are very different to the commandments of the Old Testament, for all the commandments of the Gospel are merciful, but many Old Testament commandments commands death sentences, wars and slavery.

So what is the law that the Christians must follow?

I have no idea what answers you have received since I have not read much of this thread. But have you thought about christians not having to follow any laws? That christians should just follow the spirit? Keeping laws is impossible for us to do. That is why Jesus had to come and do it for us. Being a christian isn't about law keeping, it is about having a relationship with God thanks to his grace.

SALVATION BY GRACE ES TO KEEP THE MERCIFUL COMMANDMENTS OF JESUS...

Many misinterpret the letters attributed to Paul who say we are not under law but under grace, and believe that Christians do not have to keep the commandments that Jesus taught us in the Gospel, but this doctrine contradicts what Jesus taught us in the Gospel, as Jesus Christ gave us the commandments that must be keep to enter into life. Thus, the commandments of Jesus Christ are part of Grace, and keep the commandments of Jesus Christ is being under grace.
Those of the "grace without law" do not want to hear about the commandments that Jesus Christ teaches us in the gospel...

Agree because the ten commandments are in the NT just not grouped together as they are in the OT.

"If you love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15; 21; 15:10; I John 5:2; 3. But our salvation doesn't depend on it.
That Is not what the Gospel tells us, because the Gospel tells us:

"but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honor thy father and mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful; for he was one that had great possessions" (Matth 19:16)

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned". (Mark 16:15)

Are you saying that the letters that Paul wrote are not Gospel? Are you saying that we are under the law and not under Grace? Do you not know that the Gospel of the Grace of God is a different Gospel than the Gospel of The Kingdom? When you read through the Four Gospels you will find that the Gospel of The Kingdom is mentioned three in Mat. and once in Mark. Jesus preached this Gospel. Jesus never preached the Gospel of The Grace of God. This is the Gospel that He gave to Paul to preach.

The four Gospels are actually the last four books of the OT. They are the fulfilling of a promise that God made to the Nation of Israel. Jesus said 'I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.' The Gentiles have nothing in the Gospel of the Kingdom, although it is good for our learning, it is all about bring the Nation of Israel back into Covenant relationship with God.

The Gospel of the Grace of God is for all the people of the world, Jew and Gentile alike. We are all under the Grace of God. This is the age of Grace. We are to live according to the Gospel of Grace that was given to the Apostle Paul.

Remember the two greatest commandments? They fulfill the Law and the Prophets. But we don't have to worry about the Law and the Prophets. We are under Grace. I recommend rightly dividing the word of truth.

Christians have the Gospel of Jesus Christ. and Paul preached the Gospel ... But the letters have difficult points that were twisted by the unlearned.

No different gospels ... we have the gospel of Jesus Christ alone. the Gospel of the Grace of God is the Gospel of The Kingdom?

Christians must live according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because there is only one Gospel: the Gospel of Jesus Christ ... Everything else you say are only philosophies of men.

But we don't have to worry about the Law and the Prophets. We are under Grace.
Grace is God's mercy. Therefore, all the commandments of the Gospel are merciful.
Jesus Christ tells you that if you want to enter life, you must keep the commandments of the Gospel.
"If you would enter life, keep the commandments" (Matth 19:17...)

You need to explain how you reconcile Mat.19:16-22 with all that the Apostle Paul wrote. I need to understand this.

I am a Christian, and you are "paulinista". I follow what Jesus Christ commanded in the Gospel, and you follow the difficult points of Paul's letters that were twisted by the unlearned to preach a contrary "gospel" to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel commands the powerful dictators of nations: "YOU SHALL NOT KILL", and also distribute all his property among the poor ...

The difficult points of the letters attributed to Paul and that were twisted by the unlearned, command contrary things what Jesus Christ commanded in the Gospel.

The Crooked points of the letters, order obey to dictators the world who use the sword to kill ... but Jesus did not preach those things, because Jesus Christ commanded all Christians that aren't to be like those dictators who use the sword to kill. I write an example. The letters say:

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and there, by God have been established because ....... does not bear the sword ....... . Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. because of this you also pay taxes ...... "(Romans 13:1-6)

With these teachings of the letters attributed to Paul in the hands of the bishops of Rome, the emperors of Rome and his religion, and other religions and other empires of the world, they wanted to cancel the teaching of Jesus Christ about the powerful dictators of the nations that says so:

"You know that the rulers of the Gentiles the bullying, and their great ones are tyrants over power. Among you should not, but if any of you wants to be great must be your servant, and whoever wants to be the first must be the servant of all. Likewise the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for all. "(Mark 10:42-45).

Jesus commanded only preach the Gospel to all peoples, but the powerful dictators of nations did not want the Gospel..., then imposed to the Christian peoples the laws of the Old Testament and the letters attributed to Paul that contain teachings contrary to what command the Gospel.

the Gospel teaches:

"And behold, one came to him and said, Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why askest thou me concerning that which is good? One there is who is good: but if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful; for he was one that had great possessions"(Matthew 19: 16-22

And this law and these commandments are in effect for all peoples.

However, no one is under the laws of the Old Testament that were abolished by Jesus Christ, because many of these laws were not true Law of God. We are all under the Law and the commandments of Christ, which are the only true Law of God.

You need to explain how you reconcile Mat.19:16-22 with all that the Apostle Paul wrote. I need to understand this.
It is very simple:
when Paul says that we are not under the law, this means that we are not under the law of the Old Testament. And when Paul says that we are under grace, this means that we are under the Christ's merciful Law, because Grace is mercy, and all commandments of Jesus Christ are merciful. Remember that Paul said he was under the Law of Christ:

"...not being without law to God, but under law to Christ... "(1 Corinthians 9:19-21)

Agape is the Law of God
The Gospel teaches us the true God's commanments:

The Law of God taught by Jesus Christ

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets". (Matthew 7:12)

But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful; for he was one that had great possessions" (Matthew 19: 16-22)

Greedy men with many goods, never wanted the commandments of Jesus Christ, and these men were the ones who made many religions called: Jews, "Messianic Jews", "Ephraimites", "Catholics" and others called "Christians"..., religions that do not follow the commandments of the Gospel.

None rich man wanted distribute their property with the poor as Jesus commanded, for this reason those men did their own religions, for leave unknown the commandments of Jesus Christ.

Hi, Neogaia777. The 10 Commandments of the Old Testament are not equal to the commandments that Jesus teaches us in the Gospel, because in the ten commandments of the Old Testament is allowed men to have slaves, but Jesus doesn't allow the men have slaves but Jesus cancelled the slavery with his teachings of the Gospel.
