Hi, for the last several years I have had a tugging in my heart to sell everything I have and live in the streets with the homeless. I've fought it so long that now me not taking action feels like blatant disobedience. I'm writing this thread to ask for support and prayers, as well as to seek companions who may feel the same call.. The streets are dangerous and tough. However, with God watching over us and guiding us, it will be the most satisfying experience. Minister to the broken and lost for the glory of God. please don't hesitate to contact me. Even if only to offer encouragement.

Wow, that is amazing and I certainly applaud your desire to work with and minister to the broken and lost. Have you talk to any churches/ministries about maybe joining your efforts? I would certainly suggest getting a group of people to pray for you on a regular basis. Have you planned this out? If this is God's will for you then may he grant you favor and a clear course of action.

Hello-
Just wondering if you were going to do this in one location or planning on traveling around the country? And when you say "live in the streets",are you doing it more as a vow of poverty kind of thing or primarily to witness to them,or maybe both?
This is something very similar to what i feel my "call" may involve. Even though I don't have a real "heart" for the homeless as far as the witnessing aspect goes, mainly due to my ineffectiveness in that area. But always had a desire to help in any way i could. Just curious as to what exactly you had in mind and if you had already started this since your initial posting?
Thanks-
DavidB.

Does it get stronger or weaker when you spend a great deal of time (hours) reading scripture?

God's call will be strengthened by the word, and diminished when we don't read scripture. God's call is not "do good". Not really. God wants us to do good, at the good he wants us to do, not just any good we like or choose. God may settle for letting us do that other good, but he may have something better, it just depends.

Reading the word will illuminate God's will for us. It will begin growing it out of our hearts. Without reading the word, we wont find this hidden will of God, and we might want to do good the way we know how to do it... and that is okay, but it's better to find what God has for us to shine out to the world with.

Now when you sell everything, make sure you do it in a way that is not sinning. When Christ told the Rich Young Ruler to sell everything and follow him, Christ was taking full responsibility for that man's care. Christ will care for you, just as he did that man because you are under his care... however! That means doing what Christ said.

Did Christ tell you specifically to sell everything? If he did not, you can still sell everything, but it may be sinning if you become a burden to others.

If you have to go to food shelters and eat, then by selling everything, you're not helping society or the poor. Rather you're leeching off resources that were meant to be for them, but now you are consuming. That's not godly ministry, so I imagine you had something else in mind?

What God has been doing with me is getting me away from a poverty mindset, and blessing me to be rich, so that equips me to help others.

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. - 2 Corinthians 9:8

Amazing that at age 60 I feel in my heart that God is calling me for a purpose he has in my life.

Hello,

My name is Sam and I am an American. I presently live in Russia with my wife and in the time I was here God has been dealing with me, teaching me how to walk with him. In his teaching I was able to write a small book titled "Seek God" which can be ordered at www.createspace.com/6033177. I truly had no intentions of writing a book, neither did I want to sell the book because I did not want to feel as if I was marketing a book on seeking God to make money, so the posting of this link is not me trying to solicit business, but for you to understand why I posted this link.

In the 1 1/2 years in Russia and at age 60, God has dealt with me in such a way that a desire grew within. After praying for a while I really believe in my heart that I am being led by God for the ministry that created within and this ministry has to do with preaching the Gospel of Salvation to the lost. I feel in my heart that God is calling me back home to do the work that he called me to do at my present age.

With the above being said, if you find it in your heart and truly trust my words, I would appreciate if you purchased the book. It is only $8.29, I will never get rich on this book, the publisher takes most of the money, but most important the little I make will sustain me in this ministry, also part of the proceed of this book will go towards this ministry (I will self fund this ministry and help those who are part of this ministry).

I cannot disclose the ministry until I get back to the U.S., but once I get back and started it I will post it here. It is a beautiful name God gave me to call this group of individuals. If you go to my website it will get a little more information about me and my intention. www.biblicalencourangement.net

Let me make myself clear, I am not called to be a pastor, nor a teacher and I will not form an organization that is only formed to generate wealth. This is all going to be about ministry the Gospel of Salvation.

Sincerely yours and God bless,

P.S. I hope that this website can truly see that my intentions is not to solicit a book.
