Zolee - what you call the devil horn is a sign with a wide range of different cultural and historical meanings. Yes, I know there are conspiracy theorists out there who try to make every use of that sign some type of allegiance to Satan. I guess every Texas Longhorns fan is doomed to hell then. It is so common among popular music now, particularly hard rock, that any claim that it is linked among bands and fans to satan worship is a gross over-generalization.

Skillet as a whole has a proven and long term history of speaking the truth of the gospel that seeing John use this sign should be pretty indicative that he is not using it in any satanic fashion but rather as a generic "rock on".

You should just ask the band. Email them and ask them or write to them see what they answer. If they fans of texas longhorns maybe they will say so. Why they would have that sign when they not at a sports event I dont know, but its a legit question.

At least they not doing the fingers. If they answer can you please post it here because id like to know. 'Christian rock' confuses me. Also i looked at their lyrics and didnt really see much christian content its kinda generic what they sing about. When people sing about God sometimes they are singing about the god of this world not actually the living God almighty our heavenly Father, so I do question this.

if they preaching the gospel, that is a good thing, but I do wonder why all these christian rock bands then dont go to mission fields as missionaries if they are actually evangelists. Ive never heard of anyone coming to faith by rock concert myself. I was traumatized at a christian music fest when I heard christian rock music as thought a christian music festival would actually have gospel music! It really did my head in.

Goodbook - I would say in a sense they are in the mission field, just as we all should be even if as we live where we do. Skillet plays lots of Christian music festivals, but they also play secular ones and tour as a headline act. They do not sing gospel or praise and worship, true, which means their songs are not always overt in respect to God lyrically. But they are consistent with scripture and sometimes they are overt. That also allows them greater access to the non-Christian music world. A kid hears them or sees them, buys an album, and their Christian views become pretty clear.

Take the bridge into "My Salvation" from their album Rise. The normal text is the female and male lead singer crying out. The bold italics is the response sung by a child. Hard to miss what they are saying and their intent of the following song.
Are you far? Am I left to die? Will you come to my rescue?
He was pierced for our rebellion. Crushed for our sins.
My heart will burn for you.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
Keeping me alive. My heart will burn for you.
He was whipped so we could be healed.
Keeping me alive. My heart will burn for you.
All of us like sheep have strayed away. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

Asking questions is a good thing. We do need to discern if someone is truly what they appear or a false prophet. However, I think it is a mistake to assume that everything used by God or glorifying God has to be what you would hear in a church. And it is also a mistake to doubt something is consistent or doubt the faith of the person simply because their style is not in line with our preference. Skillet has a long enough history and having seen them personally several times with my son, I do not doubt their faith and that they are talking about the living God Almighty.

I used to listen to a lot of skillet, but I don't get one thing. John has christian tattoos, preached the Gospel on concerts, and they totally say and seem to be a Christian band. But he often uses the "devil horn" hand sign on photos. Why?
Re. the tattoo bit, I guess you don't like tattoos?

A lot of Christians have them, anyway; including faith based ones which are proven effective in witness conversations (e.g., Christian fish sign <>< or Bible ref. or verse on wrist, etc.).

faroukfarouk - think you misunderstood the OP. He was saying Skillet has all these things that indicate they are Christian (including the tattoos, preaching and saying they are Christian) but he was then wondering about the sign he saw the lead singer use. The issue was the sign, not the tattoo.
