PS: Also, the parlors are more usually urban-based. This is probably why rural ppl have them less, right?

Actually, there are a couple within a few miles of where I live. Its just that rural people tend to be more conservative and apply the Biblical prohibition of marking your skin.

Hi; I think I know what you mean.

Although the previous verse in Leviticus (if this is what you're thinking of) seems to talk about not trimming one's beard; and how may preachers shave? (I wonder if the context is Old Testament Jews in the land under the law).

I guess the word conservative could be applied to not having a tattoo; although this is what a poster said a while ago; and she would not be unusual in this respect, I think:

I am a VERY CONSERVATIVE mama. I have 5 homeschooled kids, no tv, no santa, no halloween, no easter bunny, no makeup either. But, yes, I have a rose tattoo on my ankle ..
Anyway, I love my tat.

For those people who think tats aren't very Christian I just smile (and yes, there are many who frown upon them). 99% of TV is ANTI-Christian and gossip mags are filled with Anti-Christian pics and articles, yet many tat opposers let their eyes and ears see and hear evil all day long, willingly - and they see my colored picture of a rose as evil??? I don't get it!

Does it make any kind of sense?

I also think it pertains to different passages in the NT which tell us that our bodies are temples which are not to be defiled because we house the Holy Spirit within us. Such as in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

One person said to me, "You wouldnt put graffiti on a church, right"? Implying that even "pro-Christian" graffiti is unacceptable, because it is still defiling the temple of the Holy Spirit.

I do see what you mean; I guess also that where many Christians are motivated to have God-honoring tattoo designs such as a Bible verse or ref. (which are proven useful in witness), the motive does count for something and would be hard to call it defilement, right?

My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it was her favorite verse and mine also; and presumably other conversations with people have also arisen as a result of her willingness to go do it, which presumably was part of the original motivation.

Blessings.

For me, personally, I make no judgement. I wont get a tattoo, but if other people do it, that's up to them. I'm not going to say its a sin. And I have given people tattoos and sold flash.

What are all y'all's thoughts on tattoos, or body art?

As far back as I can remember, my mom has always had tattoos on her body. She has more than ever now, and is working on getting her sleeves completed.
..To me, it's just an art form that goes on the body. There's nothing really horrible about it.
Well, a lot of ppl do think of tattoos like you and your mom do.

I think you did some of your relatives' tattoos, didn't you?

(Maybe the un-inked folk at your local church haven't asked you to do it to them, though.)

Blessings.

Yeah. I gave my sister a stylized infinity loop with the initials of her two daughters inside each loop. I also used to sell a lot of flash many years ago. I haven't had much time to do that lately. I did design some tats for my brother, but never managed to get around to doing them. Either he was too busy or I was.

Oh the stylized infinity loop; yes I can see how it can be adapted to refer to motherhood.

Years ago getting tattooed was very much a man thing, a military thing, even.

But there has been a sea change and now even more women than men are apparently clients of parlors in North America.

The infinity loop - it goes on and on, with no ending - can very easily be used as an assertion of motherhood, of womanhood, right?

Don't be surprised if your sister's daughters, who know about their mom's infinity symbol eventually consider something comparable.

So is this likely your last ink? or are you likely to plan more?

I guess there a good parlor near you.

I might get some more, not sure what to have next. The tattoo studio that I go to is really good. Very helpful and they make you feel welcome. Prices start at £30.00 ($42.86).

Well, it really does sound like it's the place you would go back to, if in every way they make you, as the tattooee, feel good, right?

Seems like you have a few already.

12 already? You're undeniably a veteran, then, that thoroughly likes the inking needle. (To think it just used to be mainly a man thing years ago.)

I think someplace else (unless I'm thinking of someone else) you said, to help people get started, you advised starting with something small. So did you start small?

PS: I guess it remains to be seen if your sister gets someone else - rather than you - to give her any more ink?

She seems pretty satisfied with what she has now. But, who knows. I do have a feeling that if she wants something else done, even if she doesn't ask me to do it, she will still ask me to design it.

Well, it's often done to commemorate grandkids as well as kids; so I guess the possibility can not unusually be open-ended in this respect, right?

Nowadays a lot of moms and grandmothers certainly don't mind a bit of discomfort it means commemorating their beloved children and grandchildren.

Some do. Even some men do. My brother had his kids names inked on him and also our nieces.

Yes, of course, men also; I was think of the context of your sister. Yes, the family commemoration thing has become a leading reason for ppl to get inked - and maybe for some of them the only reason they would contemplate it, right?
