One who follows Jesus will give up his marital relationship with his own wife to love and protect her as a sister in Christ as she helps in his ministry of serving the Lord. That was what Peter did!

It's not referring to strongly disliking them, but to them having second place.

And you know that how?.....with what scripture?....where does it say Peter gave up his marital relationship?

1 Corinthians 9
5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

That is the right interpretation though it is unpalatable to many!

That depends....on the kind of man or woman you married....

If you married the person who believes in the same thing you do, then there's no reason for you to hate your spouse. This works out for the most part since most Christians are the "lukewarm" types so there's good probability the same kind will meet.

But if you are the person who is simple and does not ascribe to vanity and you married a person (even if Christian) who is vain, worldly, etc, etc, then your only option is to leave that person....Do you leave someone you love?? Of course you don't, unless they leave you first!

All scripture must be taken with all other scripture. What does it mean to "hate" one's father, mother, wife, children, brethren, sisters, etc.?

Clearly it doesn't mean that we should not love them, especially as children of God. For we have these commandments: "Therefore I say to you, love your enemy. Do good to those who hate you. Pray for those who persecute you..."
And,

"This is my commandment that you love one another that your joy may be full."

Furthermore, we have this word from the apostle Paul:
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her."

And from the apostle Peter,
"Likewise, Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way..."

In terms of Peter, there is no indication that he in any way gave up his marital relationship. To the contrary, we see that he continued to be with, and even take along, his believing wife:

"Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas [Peter]?"

So what does it mean?

In Matthew, Jesus makes almost exactly the same statement with one minor difference:

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

So, taken in the whole context of scripture, we see that anyone who puts his or her family, whether it be parents, wife, children, or anyone else, above Jesus is not worthy of Him. This does not mean that every believer must give up their marital relationship. It means that you must not let your marital relationship stand in the way of doing the will of God.

Marital relationship is allowed only to the weak. For those who take up the cross and become disciples, there is no question of continuing with a part of carnal love.

Can you name one believer who is/was not weak?

As usual, despite scripture you make your own claims (for which I am certain you will cite the apostle Paul's statement, which he clearly and unambiguously denotes as his own word, and not the Lord's, that it is good for people not to marry) and set them up as the truth.

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me... For when I am weak, then I am strong.

How do we know for sure if we love God more than anyone in our lives?

I don't think this is a question easily answered by "yes"....I don't think I myself could say yes to that.

How do we know for sure if we love God more than anyone in our lives?

I don't think this is a question easily answered by "yes"....I don't think I myself could say yes to that.
I know that I would rejoice more to go home to Jesus than I would to remain on earth with my family. I know that my hope is in having the privilege to worship God and Jesus one day in the new heavens and new earth, and my hope is not in seeing my loved ones again (though I am thankful and grateful to God that my loved ones know and confess the Lord Jesus). And I know that if God specifically told me to choose between Him and my family I would choose Him.

For a specific example of what it looks like to love God more than your family, consider Job, whose wife told him to "curse God and die." Did he listen to her voice? No. Because he loved God more than he loved her.

If the question is, do all of my choices reflect the depth of my love for Jesus, I must say no. Unfortunately, I still have sin, with its desires and passions, residing in my body. But I think there is a distinction between loving God more and showing that love in every choice and action.

As another example of this, I love my wife more than my brother, but there have been times when my brother and I hang out when I have not always shown that. It's not because I don't love her more, but because I was more concerned at that time about other things. So it is with Jesus. We may love Him more than anything, but sometimes we get so concerned with other things that we don't act like we love Him more than we love them.
