Looking forward to investigating this in my area, as it came around last year but I missed it unfortunately.

More specifically, I found this out from one of the churches that a good friend of mine in Orthodoxy (in the ATL) told me on. It's on the following (http://www.kurskroot.com/kursk_root_icon_home.html ):

Visitation Schedule of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God through Georgia, Alabama & Mississippi and Carolinas & Tennessee Deaneries

With the blessing of His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, the Guide and Protectress of the Russian Diaspora, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God of the Sign, will tour the Georgia, Alabama & Mississippi and the Carolinas & Tennessee Deaneries of the Eastern American Diocese from February 6th to 28th.

With God’s help, this parish visitation tour will spiritually fortify the faithful of our deaneries. The Kursk Icon of the Mother of God is the greatest blessing we in the Russian Church Abroad have. Over the course of our history, the Heavenly Queen has, through her icon "Of the Sign," protected our archpastors, pastors, and all of the faithful children of the Church Abroad under her omophorion. During the most fearful years of the 20th century, the Heavenly Queen never abandoned us and, thanks to her, our Church was able to preserve the spirit of Orthodoxy far away from Holy Russia.

Our diocesan hierarchs of blessed repose: Metropolitan Philaret, Metropolitan Laurus, Archbishop Vitaly, Archbishop Averky, Archbishop Nikon, and many other archpastors always prayed before our Heavenly Guide. Let us follow their example and all fall to our knees together before this honorable image, singing with "one mouth and one heart:" O Most Holy Theotokos, save and bless us in our forthcoming labor!

Archpriest Mark Mancuso

Dean of the Carolinas & Tennessee

I'm not sure how such things work. If it goes only to Russian parishes, there truly are none nearby at all. I was excited to find a mission at one point, but it is apparently defunct.

I ought not complain. While it would be a blessing to see it, God of course does not need the icon. He does very wonderful things for me anyway - so as I said I ought not complain. :)

It all takes a moment in time and who knows what the future holds :)

May be worth a road trip. Just saying...
May be ...

But my car is becoming extremely unreliable. If we are talking car rental, a night or two in a hotel, several hundred miles worth of gas ... it quickly becomes prohibitive.

But you never know. I'm planning to go stay a few days at a monastery next week - trip planned by someone else and I get to ride along, glory to God. I didn't expect that either. :)

Oh wow!! Praying your journey is truly blessed - I would love to go to a monastery for a weekend, although I am hoping to go to the convent I went to last year for a conference coming up soon at St. Mary & St. Demiana Convent

With my night/3rd shift job being intensive of late, I have been hoping for ways to practically work around things so that I'd not be at an event tired. It is very difficult and I am praying for the grace for all to work out so I can go and see the icon this weekend, but we'll see whatever the Lord makes available.

My prayers are with you! I hope it all works out and you are blessed!

I'm actually going during the week - which means I give up several days' pay. However - I had planned to be in Church this week some time, but our priest is/was very ill (Lord have mercy!) so I worked extra hours instead. Which taught me something - I'm too weak I think to make it Sunday to Sunday, working all week and not much else, with no Church at all in the meantime. It has come up recently, and I was considering trying to get a better-paying job, more hours but less stress and better benefits, but it would likely mean Sunday-only Church. I'm thinking I have been shown this is not a good idea, but it needs more prayer.

I hope your situation works out well and you are blessed! :)

Many thanks for the prayers. Looking forward to going to St.Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church tomorrow somehow - and believing that all things come together with my work and the presentations I have to do.

I so feel you with being tired many times making it Sunday to Sunday with regards to work. It is something I want to work on, as I know things would be a lot different if my job situation changed and I was able to go to parish more frequently than of late. Definitely a mutual prayer for the both of us - and with going during the week, I feel you on losing pay. Growth in Christ is worth sacrifices, of course.

Blessings and again thanks for the encouragement.

You are right. The faith is worth any sacrifice at all, and money can be the least of these. Our parish schedule varies pretty widely. Sometimes Sunday to Sunday is all we have, but that's not the usual. I try to be there whenever we have a Liturgy or Bible study, and for as many of the other events as I can make it. On average I am usually there 2-3 times a week. I thought after a year or two I might not need it so much - I thought it was because I was newly baptized, but a year and some months later and I seem to need it even more. I don't know. God knows ... But I don't think I'm going to be quick to try to make any changes, except to try to line up some extra work for summer when things slow down at Church.

My prayers are with you, such as they are.

It is MORE than worth a road trip....

Arsenios
I don't disagree, but one must be practical. One wouldn't want to become stranded hundreds of miles from home without sufficient funds ...

;)

(One is also traveling as a woman alone, and not as young as I used to be ... Several reasons to be careful, I'm afraid. I WISH I could just get in a car and take off to visit Monasteries, Churches, Icons ... )

Teleportation would be amazing as well :)

Oh, as long as we're dreaming, a transporter was the first Star Trek technology I'd like to see. A replicator could come in handy too. I used to count a holodeck in the top three, but it seems it would be very difficult to keep its use edifying - though not impossible.

Interestingly enough, teleportation has been made available:

When it is made public, I'll wait for the first couple of years so that it can be shown as safe - and then I'll invest :)

Many thanks for the prayers as it was stellar - definitely glad I was able to be present for the experience. Of course, ironically, what was more of a blessing to me than anything else was simply being able to pray with other believers present for the event :)
