I got an off center combination 3/4 Load Toner/Hasty. Less a cross more a -|

But considering the presiding priest was one of our retired Canons in residence, and she's nursing an injured slung arm, I'm grateful for my -|

I find that to be very similar to the "load toner" because the vertical line stands out but it's really running out of ash by the time the priest goes for the horizontal line. I think last year I pretty much ended up somewhere between a hindu and rorschach blob, because that's really all that was visible.

I'm plagiarizing this from the OBOB forum but take a look at Ezekeil 9:4 and he said to him, "Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it."

And what's even more intriguing is the Hebrew word (taw) at the time Ezekeil would have been written for our English word (mark) looks a lot like a leaning cross.

The service was good, and I made it on time, but apparently one had to be about ten minutes early to receive ashes. I had picked up my little girl from day care for the very purpose of taking her to her first ash Wednesday service (she is two weeks from her first birthday and she likes church). We were about three minutes early and did not get ashes. The pastor announced that he will be preaching a series through and on Job for Lent and the first installment was respectable.

When you say you have to arrive early for ashes, what do you mean? Ashes aren't imposed during the liturgy, only before? Or only a certain seating section was eligible for ashes and you had to arrive earlier enough to get one of those seats?

Ashes were only imposed prior to the liturgy. It was the first time that I had seen that wrinkle too.
