• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

It's been about ~9 months now; praise the Lord! [cold turkey]
Being in LA, it's a common thing to find a dispensary on every corner;
most of my acquaintances also being shop owners, weed is passed around as candy.
cops rarely care... neither did I care
But the Lord cared, and I'm glad he pulled me out of it. It was the hardest thing, I'm not gonna lie, but so worth it! The first 3 weeks was hell, but I thank Christ Jesus and his gospel which I meditated on each day.

I have many friends who would argue cannabis is a plant and God made it blah blah blah, and I'd always argue, "He also made poison ivy, should we smoke it?" Lol
Here are some things about smoking i've learned in the bible...

[ φαρμακεία ] pharmakeia...
the bible renders this Greek word as sorcery / witchcraft
and it means drug enchantment, the use and administering of drugs.

Isaiah 47:12
Stand now with thine enchantments,
and with the multitude of thy sorceries,
wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth;
if so be thou shalt be able to profit,
if so be thou mayest prevail.

Revelation 9:21
Neither repented they of their murders,
nor of their sorceries (pharmakeia),
nor of their fornication (inappropriate contenteia),
nor of their thefts.

Be sober, be vigilant
— 1 Peter 5:8

BENEFITS OF NOT SMOKING

1. No dependency / addiction
2. Enhanced cognition
3. Improved respiration
4. Increased energy
5. Increased dream recall
6. Save money
7. More social
8. etc.

SMOKE.
The smoke of burning incense is said to be pleasing to God, but this depends upon the source of the incense. The smoke of incense made from the wax of bees is of a high vibration, but the smoke made from tallow is low. The smoke of tobacco has a tendency to attract to the person the low, earth-bound entities who like this atmosphere which they have been accustomed to on Earth. Thus we can surround ourselves with higher spiritual powers or we can attract low spirits in this way. The fumes of liquor also attract evil spirits which surround us and try to influence us, almost always to our detriment.

I am convinced that quitting smoking is mostly a head game and that once you've got your head in the right place you've already got it mostly beat. In 1985 I was 42 and had smoked for 25 years. I had attempted to stop smoking a number of times. I was able to handle it for up to a couple of months before caving. Then one weekend we were visiting my wife's parents. They informed us that my father-in-law had just been diagnosed with lung cancer. He was a lifelong nonsmoker but had worked for 40 years in a room that was known as the "blue room" because of the constant haze of tobacco smoke. He was a victim of 'Other Peoples' smoke. I was devastated --- I had smoked in his house and in front of him. I felt that in some way I was at least partly guilty for his condition. My wife and daughters stayed on for some extra days while I drove home to go back to work. When I got home my head was in the right place. I took all my pipes, pipe-stand and humidor into the back yard and smashed them on a rock with a hammer. The rest was actually remarkably easy.

Right on my man! Good job. So you were like 17 when you started. I started at 14/15.
Sorry to hear about your father in law. I hope everything is currently alright.
My only uncle passed away from lung cancer because of smoking and that was the first funeral I attended. That's how I started started to think about stopping. The sacrifices that take place for us humans to understand sometimes...
Second hand smoke... I can't stand it now ironically. It's like I'm allergic to it now.
How selfish of smokers, and my former self, now that I think about it.
It is estimated 53,800 people die a year from second hand smoke. Man...
It's like if one doesn't care about his life, think about the person next to you.

Anyways, your right it's all in the head more than the physical cravings.
Thanks for sharing your testimony, and keep it up. God bless!

I don't know that tobacco is scorcery, or even pharmacia. The burning smell of tobacco may make sense. But that is also saying that God might not like someone who works in a factory that melts things like plastic, or glue. The important thing is your body as a temple for Yeshua. Tobacco, and other things can hurt the Temple, and make it difficult to be used by Yeshua. I think that would be more important to Him than anything else. It's difficult to say walk 10 miles for Yeshua, when you can't do it because you smoke 2 packs a day, and you are out of breath.

Wow man that is very interesting info. I never related pot to witchcraft. It makes sense though. I quit some time ago and remember that I instantly started hearing the Holy Spirit speak to my heart more. I'm very happy for you man.

I started smoking in six grade when I was 12 then chewing tobacco for years then I quit chewing tobacco and smoking. I lived with my brother that smoked when I was 22 I didn't smoke. When I was 22 to 25 I didn't smoke. Then I started going to the bar and get drunk and smoke and then a girlfriend that smoke but I quit then I got a new job in the carpenters union and was stressed out so I started smoking twenty six to 37 the longest I've gone is two years. But now I'm using a vaporizer and will be at 0% nicotine in couple weeks. Can't wate to be free of nicotine.
