I think God granted us with gifts we call skills, to bring honor to his name through the beauty we bring into the world. I also think as we enter this madness we call the adult world, we tend to loose sight of those skills and as our dreams slowly fade away, so does our joy. That's why our kids bring us so much joy. We find the memories we have in that magically innocent world they live in.
I would like to set up a little experiment in human nature that will allow each and every one of us to reveal their inner child, by telling us what brought joy into their lives as far as skills, talents and just what brought joy into your life, to do.
I would also like for you to please tell us how you've brought that joyful thing foreword in time to be apart of your life as an adult. I think you in advance for your co-operation so we can all start to see each other as the individuals we are instead of the avatars images we replace ourselves with.
I will start.
Hi my name is Kevin and I grew up as a very socially backward kid. A younger brother of two siblings. I was a son of a deeply prejudiced red neck father and a overzealous Jehovah's witness mother who thought everything in the world, outside the walls of the Kingdom Hall was demonized, so you can pretty well situated /i was to innteract socially with others. Add a control freak brother who took pleasure in trying to dominate, by will or by fists all that surrounded him and you pretty much have my world as a youth.
What gave me an out and the greatest joy in growing up is that we lived on a 40 acre farm that was within walking distance of town, but far enough away to allow me and my dog the freedom to explore the country including the farmlands, fields and forests of North Western Kansas. I used to walk for miles in every direction finding the wonder of nature everywhere.
One of the pluses of being able to do that was to find many of the dumping sites that the farms owners had used on their various properties and I would scrounge through them, often finding useful items that I could take back to my room and figure out. I was a tinkler at heart and I surprised myself, many times by what I could get to work and work well.
I remember finding a perfectly good small spotlight that I could illuminate the wildlife that came near the farmhouse at night and loved to set outside, on the roof on a cloudless night, looking up at that canopy of stars and dream of Sci-Fi adventures out in the silent void of space.
I never, truly fit into the world of my youth and my imagination ran a 1000 miles an hour trying to position myself as far away from where and who I was, at that time. I would have chosen just about anyone other than myself to be, because I was sure that anyone had a better life than I.
I dabbled in freehand art and then in writing and I put that to much work organizing Roll playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Aftermath, Swords and Sorcery, Star Trek, The Morrow Project and of course Traveler. I wrote several short and long stories about Sci-Fi and fantasy, but never was very good at it.
I ended up after several inadvertent attempts at killing myself through my own stupidity and coming out as a more experienced idiot that found god and realized just how little luck was involved in my miraculous surviving all the stupid things I've put my body through these last 50 some odd years.
Right now I've adapted that loner personality into a Career as truck driver that has lasted since 1993. Thank God they haven't found out what they unleashed behind the well of a semi truck, so please don't tell them or I'll run you off the road. lol.
Well, that's about it for what gave me joy and what I've turned that joy into as an adult. I hope it can explain me better and I can't wait to see what other fascinating people we have here. Thank you and God bless each and every one of you guys and gals. Have a wonderful day.
Kevin
