Female Singer/Songwriters

I just love people who can create things that bring joy into the world. I've loved music for as long as I can remember and I loved those who can write and sing their own songs. I would like to start up a thread about those female singer/songwriters that have changed the world of music.

Joni Mitchell - A free man in Paris.

Tracy Chapman - Give me one Reason ( with Eric Clapton) Awesome

Carole King - Jazzman.

It's hard to top Joni Mitchell. 'Hejira' is one of my all-time favorite albums.

Kate Bush, Aimee Mann, Sinead O'Connor, Ani DeFranco, kd lang, Kaia Wilson...those are the first to come to my own mind, as far as solo artists go. If I were to include female singer-songwriters who are part of bands, it would be much longer.

Thank you for these. I will look them up. I never put any parimeters on wither they were a solo act or part of a band, so knock yourself out. Just, If you would please post youtubes so people don't have to go searching around for good music. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

No one's mentioned Adele? I'm not a big fan. Quite a few of her songs sound very similar to me. But (along with Taylor, I suppose) she's at the top of the current heap of female singer/songwriters.

I've got to give a shout-out to Stevie Nicks. Fleetwwood Mac would not have had the success it did without her. She did some brilliant work.
