• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

The power of the word doesn't come by speaking it, or singing it, or chanting it in another language. It comes by hearing.

Yes hearing, seeing and finally but of utmost importance obeying it. When God says love your neighbour then love your neighbour not in theory but in real life. This can be a very hard mission at times! Where we need Jesus to get us through.

I found that eating the word taste sweet in the mouth but is bitter in the belly. Our physical being can't bear to hear God's Word much but the delight that comes from loving God is worth everything.

Be warned my brother the devil is also in our hearts and he is very clever and resourceful - he has a lot of life in our attitudes, values and morals and our worldly education - in my life they were my real life idols. Pride and arrogance were also real evil doers in my life and became my downfall and reaped me heaps of misery, arrogance and pride the lawless one has like pearly necklace around his neck.

So good to meet you here.

Yes, this realization keeps me humble.

Isaiah 41:12 Though you search for your enemies,
you will not find them.
Those who wage war against you
will be as nothing at all.
13 For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.

15 “See, I will make you into a threshing sledge,
new and sharp, with many teeth.
You will thresh the mountains and crush them,
and reduce the hills to chaff.
16 You will winnow them, the wind will pick them up,
and a gale will blow them away.

7 “The poor and needy search for water,
but there is none;
their tongues are parched with thirst.
But I the Lord will answer them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
18 I will make rivers flow on barren heights,
and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert into pools of water,
and the parched ground into springs.
19 I will put in the desert
the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive.
I will set junipers in the wasteland,
the fir and the cypress together,
20 so that people may see and know,
may consider and understand,
that the hand of the Lord has done this,
that the Holy One of Israel has created it.

This scripture interests me. God seems to be mocking the idols of men. Verse 29 reminds me of the sermon on the mount. The Lord refers to a house being built on a foundation of wisdom in Christ, and it stands firm against the winds. The apostle Paul mentions the winds of doctrine. I think that mans idols do creep into his doctrine.

Isaiah 41:22 “Tell us, you idols,
what is going to happen.
Tell us what the former things were,
so that we may consider them
and know their final outcome.
Or declare to us the things to come,
23 tell us what the future holds,
so we may know that you are gods.
Do something, whether good or bad,
so that we will be dismayed and filled with fear.
24 But you are less than nothing
and your works are utterly worthless;
whoever chooses you is detestable.

28 I look but there is no one—
no one among the gods to give counsel,
no one to give answer when I ask them.
29 See, they are all false!
Their deeds amount to nothing;
their images are but wind and confusion.

As a matter of fact lies are nothing in and off themselves - they have no substance - like the truth - yet bad life flows from it. Depression and satanic lies are intimately interwoven to create as much misery as is possible. The bible calls them locust and they come out of the Abyss to hurt and devour us. The lie can have no place within the truth for the truth embodies the lie yet dies at the hand of it. How can the lie have existence outside of the truth? Only in deed will evil be punished but the lies will all be long gone then for The Truth is triumphed.

So it is with things we believe as Christians because that is what we have been taught. For example I know from experience that grace and forgiveness of sin doesn't stop the wilful sinner from sinning rather he or she uses it as an excuse to keep on going. How many Christians think, God has forgiven when as a matter of fact God is dead because the lie rules in that part of their lives and they haven't repented and dressed in newness of life?

To let God's Word expose the lies ruling depressed hearts and ruin their power over us.

Zechariah 5:1-4
I looked again, and there before me was a flying scroll.

He asked me, “What do you see?”

I answered, “I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”

And he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished. The Lord Almighty declares, ‘I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.’”:bow::bow::bow:

Yeah how true this word speaks inside of me, and more

please listen to the promise in this when you feel godforsaken.

Isaiah 66
For this is what the Lord says:

“I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream;
you will nurse and be carried on her arm
and dandled on her knees.
As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”:amen:

When you see this, your heart will rejoice
and you will flourish like grass;:amen:
the hand of the Lord will be made known to his servants,:clap::clap::clap:
but his fury will be shown to his foes.:pray:

See, the Lord is coming with fire,
and his chariots are like a whirlwind;
he will bring down his anger with fury,
and his rebuke with flames of fire.
For with fire and with his sword
the Lord will execute judgment on all people,
and many will be those slain by the Lord.

“Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs, rats and other unclean things—they will meet their end together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.

“And I, because of what they have planned and done, am about to come and gather the people of all nations and languages, and they will come and see my glory.

“I will set a sign among them, and I will send some of those who survive to the nations—to Tarshish, to the Libyans and Lydians (famous as archers), to Tubal and Greece, and to the distant islands that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will proclaim my glory among the nations. And they will bring all your people, from all the nations, to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord—on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels,” says the Lord. “They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels. And I will select some of them also to be priests and Levites,” says the Lord.

“As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure. From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the Lord. “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

As someone who has suffered much I can testify the God can really comfort us with His love and His good life, even when we are depressed He can come and give us of that hidden manna to eat and give us the ability to get through it.

The above word has come true in my life, many times over even, as His truth is wheels within wheels moving through us at lightening fast speeds establishing or breaking down.

It is no fun to come under His wrath, for Jesus repays us according to what we have done, not only our actions, but also who or what we have been listening to, and now I'm not just talking about people here, but rather want to point to the spirituality that is around us. Paul talks about them in Ephesians 6 and tells us how we ought to arm ourselves against them.

I have learned to understand that not all our thoughts come from ourselves but are sparked by the bad spirituality that dwell within and without us. The wicked are sure a force to be reckoned with. Yet surprisingly very little is written about them in Church doctrine, apart of the mystics no one seemed to have ever analysed them or their ways. I'm so happy that Jesus knows them all and has them reserved for eternal doom, I don't feel sorry for them whatsoever, destroying God's people even while they are babies and toddlers perverting them and their ways into wrong. I hate them with a passion. The very force who lay their traps and then slowly (or very quickly if they can get away with it,) destroy the person who allowed them in. True parasites. The wicked always lie and cause people to think and feel lovelessly and untrue.

The very reason humanity has fallen so low over such a short time.

I hope and pray the Christ will come and rule all peoples heart for only Jesus can set us free from our sins and misery no one else can impersonate the living word, for that is who the rider on the white horse is, let God's word teach you about your inner world of being and set things straight for you.

Whatever it is Jesus can get you through.

Psalm 68
May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;
may his foes flee before him.
May you blow them away like smoke—
as wax melts before the fire,
may the wicked perish before God.
But may the righteous be glad
and rejoice before God;
may they be happy and joyful.

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds;
rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families,
he leads out the prisoners with singing;
but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

When you, God, went out before your people,
when you marched through the wilderness,
the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain,
before God, the One of Sinai,
before God, the God of Israel.
You gave abundant showers, O God;
you refreshed your weary inheritance.
Your people settled in it,
and from your bounty, God, you provided for the poor.

The Lord announces the word,
and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng:
“Kings and armies flee in haste;
the women at home divide the plunder.
Even while you sleep among the sheep pens,
the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver,
its feathers with shining gold.”
When the Almighty scattered the kings in the land,
it was like snow fallen on Mount Zalmon.

Mount Bashan, majestic mountain,
Mount Bashan, rugged mountain,
why gaze in envy, you rugged mountain,
at the mountain where God chooses to reign,
where the Lord himself will dwell forever?
The chariots of God are tens of thousands
and thousands of thousands;
the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.
When you ascended on high,
you took many captives;
you received gifts from people,
even from the rebellious—
that you, Lord God, might dwell there.

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
who daily bears our burdens.
Our God is a God who saves;
from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.
Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies,
the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.
The Lord says, “I will bring them from Bashan;
I will bring them from the depths of the sea,
that your feet may wade in the blood of your foes,
while the tongues of your dogs have their share.”

Your procession, God, has come into view,
the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary.
In front are the singers, after them the musicians;
with them are the young women playing the timbrels.
Praise God in the great congregation;
praise the Lord in the assembly of Israel.
There is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them,
there the great throng of Judah’s princes,
and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali.

Summon your power, God
show us your strength, our God, as you have done before.
Because of your temple at Jerusalem
kings will bring you gifts.
Rebuke the beast among the reeds,
the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations.
Humbled, may the beast bring bars of silver.
Scatter the nations who delight in war.
Envoys will come from Egypt;
Cush will submit herself to God.

Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth,
sing praise to the Lord,
to him who rides across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens,
who thunders with mighty voice.

Proclaim the power of God,
whose majesty is over Israel,
whose power is in the heavens.
You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary;
the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.

Praise be to God!

The Lord refers to a house being built on a foundation of wisdom in Christ, and it stands firm against the winds. The apostle Paul mentions the winds of doctrine. Isaiah 41:22 “Tell us, you idols,

and know their final outcome.

23 tell us what the future holds,

24 But you are less than nothing
and your works are utterly worthless;
whoever chooses you is detestable.

28 I look but there is no one—
no one among the gods to give counsel,
no one to give answer when I ask them.
29 See, they are all false!
Their deeds amount to nothing;
their images are but wind and confusion.

Yeah idol worship ends up with Babylonia ruling it over you. However the Lord has different in mind for those who heed Him. Like Revelation 18:4-8 also earnestly advises us to get out and save our lives!

Isaiah 48
“Listen to this, you descendants of Jacob,
you who are called by the name of Israel
and come from the line of Judah,
you who take oaths in the name of the Lord
and invoke the God of Israel—
but not in truth or righteousness—
you who call yourselves citizens of the holy city
and claim to rely on the God of Israel—
the Lord Almighty is his name:
I foretold the former things long ago,
my mouth announced them and I made them known;
then suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.
For I knew how stubborn you were;
your neck muscles were iron,
your forehead was bronze.
Therefore I told you these things long ago;
before they happened I announced them to you
so that you could not say,
‘My images brought them about;
my wooden image and metal god ordained them.’
You have heard these things; look at them all.
Will you not admit them?

“From now on I will tell you of new things,
of hidden things unknown to you.
They are created now, and not long ago;
you have not heard of them before today.
So you cannot say,
‘Yes, I knew of them.’
You have neither heard nor understood;
from of old your ears have not been open.
Well do I know how treacherous you are;
you were called a rebel from birth.
For my own name’s sake I delay my wrath;
for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you,
so as not to destroy you completely.
See, I have refined you, though not as silver;
I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this.
How can I let myself be defamed?
I will not yield my glory to another.

“Listen to me, Jacob,
Israel, whom I have called:
I am he;
I am the first and I am the last.
My own hand laid the foundations of the earth,
and my right hand spread out the heavens;
when I summon them,
they all stand up together.

“Come together, all of you, and listen:
Which of the idols has foretold these things?
The Lord’s chosen ally
will carry out his purpose against Babylon;
his arm will be against the Babylonians.
I, even I, have spoken;
yes, I have called him.
I will bring him,
and he will succeed in his mission.

“Come near me and listen to this:

“From the first announcement I have not spoken in secret;
at the time it happens, I am there.”

And now the Sovereign Lord has sent me,
endowed with his Spirit.

This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go.
If only you had paid attention to my commands,
your peace would have been like a river,
your well-being like the waves of the sea.
Your descendants would have been like the sand,
your children like its numberless grains;
their name would never be blotted out
nor destroyed from before me.”

Leave Babylon,
flee from the Babylonians!
Announce this with shouts of joy
and proclaim it.
Send it out to the ends of the earth;
say, “The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob.”
They did not thirst when he led them through the deserts;
he made water flow for them from the rock;
he split the rock
and water gushed out.

“There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.”

Mentally ill people often bear the brunt of judgemental thinking because mentally ill people can do some really obvious sinful things, especially when their minds have gone haywire it is hard not to fall for the lure of the great prostitute.

The truth is that God hates a judgemental spirit and will cut it out of us on the day of visitation. (Hebrews 4:12-13) God's Grace is the banner under which we find safety from judgemental spirit also when we practise judgement upon ourselves.

Judged
Oh you Judgemental eye better shudder,
always condemning sin in the other.
In you merciful love cannot be found,
only those evil sights roving around.
Crowning the wicked as rulers within,
creating wrongful hearts doing more sin.
Be warned on The Day of Christ Return,
all your evil work within will surely burn!

Ecclesiastes 1:12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind! 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Romans 8:22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

I read some of your posts, got inspired, and read the Bible again for a while. It had been a couple of weeks, I needed that.

I love you guys.

Great!

Love you to brother, so good to see Jesus got you away from that pit and into His care.:oldthumbsup:

The bible tells us to eat the scroll, spiritually applied - let it not just nourish your intellect but much more so your soul. Paul reckons we find eternal life in the enduring word of God, how true that is, good to remember that when you read it.:hug:

(Like this one in Matthew 24: 40-41 - one is taken and one is left behind - to me this means that I best rejoice in that when I am struggling with bad life for I know that bad life itself will gnash its teeth, soon obsolete to be. Revelation 19:11-21 Any one who ponders on that knows the Hallelujah song will certainly not pass them by. :oldthumbsup: )

Jesus is Victorious:clap::clap::clap:

The bible teaches us that evil is the result of lies. It were the lies Satan told Eve that killed the truth living within her and caused humanity to produce wrong deeds.

Genesis 3:1-6
"Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it."

The bible teaches us that Satan is the father of lies

John 8:44

"You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."

Evil has its being in the lies that we believe, those lies kill the potential for lasting good to grow within our hearts and minds. Lies kill the truth (God's image) within us and cause us to think untrue thoughts which in turn effect our feelings and our deeds.

Lies never produce good, apart of when we lie to protect good life, but rape, steal, oppress, distort, imprisons, enslaves and hurt the truth outside of us and inside of us. Lies bring into being uncreated realities within our life individually as well as collectively, (Revelation 9) lies build untrue being inside of us and kills, distorts, perverts, imprisons, enslaves, and contaminates our God given true lives .

Isaiah 57:1-4
"The righteous perish,
and no one takes it to heart;
the devout are taken away,
and no one understands
that the righteous are taken away
to be spared from evil.
Those who walk uprightly
enter into peace;
they find rest as they lie in death.

“But you—come here, you children of a sorceress,
you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes!
Who are you mocking?
At whom do you sneer
and stick out your tongue?
Are you not a brood of rebels,
the offspring of liars?"

The problem is that even though our lives in lies is untrue, our resulting deeds are not! To be untrue causes very bad things to happen in truth. When we see the truth then we mourn our lives in lies and do away with it like a dirty menstrual cloth. The results of the lie inside are always loathsome.

Revelation 1:7
"“Look, he is coming with the clouds,
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;
and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.
So shall it be! Amen."

So no one will be able to refute the truth of God, He knows full well what the consequences of the lie within us and outside of us are. He has suffered all the evil that lies have brought into being and brought it to a good ending.

Colossians 1:20

"and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."

So only the truth can save us from the lies that have us captive, to believe anything else is simply another lie.

John 8:36
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

"The righteous perish,
and no one takes it to heart;
the devout are taken away,
and no one understands
that the righteous are taken away
to be spared from evil.
Those who walk uprightly
enter into peace;
they find rest as they lie in death.

"“Look, he is coming with the clouds,
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;
and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.

John 8:31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Psalm 62:5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God[c];
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.

We often blame God when our suffering is bad, but the worst offenders are right within us. They sleeked into our spirit over time with their lies and are now enjoying your good life while you are stuck with their bad life. They literally suck the life out of us.

The way out is reading the word of God with your heart. Come on do it read it with your heart, do it because you love God, and yes do it in all your different moods of being and see what you hear!

For example;

Read in love for God and neighbour and see what you hear!
John 14:23
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

Read in trust in the Lord and see what you hear!
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Love/live the Word of God and see what you hear!
1 Peter 1:23
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Love God's good Creation and see what you hear!
Genesis 1:33a
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

Enjoy or love good things
1 Corinthians 10:26
for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

Read in fear and see what you hear!
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Read in hopelessness and see what you hear!
1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Read in envy and see what you hear!
1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Read in unbelief and see what you hear!
Hebrews 3:12-15
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. As has just been said:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”

Read in doubt and see what you hear!
James 1:6-7
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Read in shame and see what you hear!
Psalm 25:2
I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.

Read in guilt and see what you hear!
Psalm 32:5
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Read in arrogance and see what you hear!
1 Samuel 15:23
For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”

Read in hate and see what you hear!
Romans 12:9
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Read in lust and see what you hear!
1 John 2:16
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Read in perversion and see what you hear!
Jude 1:7
In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Read in sadness and see what you hear!
Isaiah 49:13
Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.

Must I go on for you to see the sheep and the goats? This is how I let Jesus set me free. I read the bible with my heart and let the word do its work. It is a two-edged sword that cuts both ways into our spirit and cleanses it with His S(s)pirituality. The process is known as sanctification and liberates us from the power of the wicked.

Revelation 14:17-20
Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.” The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath. They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.:clap::clap::clap:

I find comfort in this scripture. It tells me that although i have made many bad choices in life, and although i may suffer overwhelming hardship, that i still have hope. The Lords mercy endures forever. This is not an exact copy of the scripture but is only parts of it.

Lamentations 3New International Version (NIV)

3 [a]I am the man who has seen affliction
by the rod of the Lord’s wrath.
2 He has driven me away and made me walk
in darkness rather than light;
3 indeed, he has turned his hand against me
again and again, all day long.
4 He has made my skin and my flesh grow old
and has broken my bones.
5 He has besieged me and surrounded me
with bitterness and hardship.
6 He has made me dwell in darkness
like those long dead.

7 He has walled me in so I cannot escape;
he has weighed me down with chains.
8 Even when I call out or cry for help,
he shuts out my prayer.
9 He has barred my way with blocks of stone;
he has made my paths crooked.

16 He has broken my teeth with gravel;
he has trampled me in the dust.
17 I have been deprived of peace;
I have forgotten what prosperity is.
18 So I say, “My splendor is gone
and all that I had hoped from the Lord.”
19 I remember my affliction and my wandering,
the bitterness and the gall.
20 I well remember them,
and my soul is downcast within me.
21 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
27 It is good for a man to bear the yoke
while he is young.
28 Let him sit alone in silence,
for the Lord has laid it on him.
29 Let him bury his face in the dust—
there may yet be hope.
30 Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him,
and let him be filled with disgrace.
31 For no one is cast off
by the Lord forever.
32 Though he brings grief, he will show compassion,
so great is his unfailing love.
33 For he does not willingly bring affliction
or grief to anyone.

40 Let us examine our ways and test them,
and let us return to the Lord.
41 Let us lift up our hearts and our hands
to God in heaven, and say:
42 “We have sinned and rebelled
and you have not forgiven.

55 I called on your name, Lord,
from the depths of the pit.
56 You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears
to my cry for relief.”
57 You came near when I called you,
and you said, “Do not fear.”
