Has anyone been to Israel on a Holy Land Tour or similar.
If you have, any advice for someone planning on going there?

Was it expensive, did you go with a group, and what did you see?
Did you celebrate the Jewish feasts while there..like the feast of the tabernacles (Sukkot)? Or Passover (for us christians, easter or resurrection Sunday?)

"Our" oldest son is taking a group this month...
One trip will include: Jordan and Egypt....I would
LOVE to go!!!!

But if one only wants to do the Israel tour, that
takes place: March 3-14...according to their website.
If traveling with this church group, it will cost 4 thousand
dollars (Canadian).

You will need extra money for souvenirs, add-ons, entrance
fees etc... which can vary from place to place and person to person.

It's expensive for us... even more so since the CAD dollar(loonie) is weak...I believe it's around .72 cents
at this time.

Trip costs will depending upon what time of the year you
go, where you live, the length of the tour, do you want
nice accommodations and the inclusion of all meals? add-on
tours, recreation etc? If so, set aside 5 to 8 thousand
for your upscale tour...depending upon what part of the
world you're traveling from.

Many people I know have shelled out between 2-4 thousand
dollars for either a 10-12 day Israel tour that included an
add-on trip to Jordan/or Egypt...they stayed in good hotels, included two meals, a tour guide, entrance fees etc were included.
One can pick budget-minded tours, many of them start
around a thousand dollars and tend to be much shorter
tours...it also depends what part of the world you are flying
from..

I haven't personally been to Israel but I know many who have
been there with a group and or hosted trips to Israel(as "our" son has done for several years now.)
"Our" son will be going there this month...

I know church members whove been at my old church, one of the elderly couples was involved with leading tours, but they dont do it anymore because thye are getting on, it was done through iCEJ but I dont want to be involved with any religious politics if I did go, thats why Im asking around.

I mean maybe its all political anyway? Staying with a jewish family and sharing in the feasts would be fun.
Also i dont know if kibbutz still operate, had some workmates who told me they did it years ago.

Religious politics?
When was this?
Oh just things like zionism and the elections and the palestinian conflict and things like that.
I heard that it can get contentious and there is persecution, esp of arab christians. But it may be blown out of proportion, I dont really know, I dont keep track of world news all the time.

icej seems affiliated with zionists, and not sure i agree with everything they claim. I thought israel was peaceful country, it looks that way in the postcards..of course.

We get israeli tourists in nz and from what I know mostly young people on military leave. Its compulsory for them to serve in the army. They tend to be pretty gung ho and are always the ones being rescued by helicopters when they venture out into our bush..lol.

*Nobody I know who's been to Israel haven't reported any problems political or otherwise.
Our son(minister) has been taking a group over
there for several years now, he loves it!

Oh thats good. The news must be blown out of proportion. I guess you wouldnt go into conflicting areas like gaza strip. Apparently theres a wall between palestine and israel and checkpoints everywhere, but for tourists prolly doesnt affect them.

well I looked in the papers travel supplements as they always advertise deals every week but I noticed there's nothing for Israel. Maybe not many nzers go?

Also there's a travel expo but I know expos are just places that you pay money to go to pay more money. my church has people who go on missions but none go to tour israel...

The previous church I went to couldn't even organise a camp. So I don't think I'll be going overseas with them. Also, well, then there was the pakistan church girl. She still didn't apologise for basically manipulating people. Which is why I don't go to that church anymore. I mean, forgiven, but, lesson learned.

I toured Israel in 2004 during the time of Arafat's funeral, and tensions were high, but we were well guarded and guided. Israel goes to great lengths to protect the tourist trade, and will advise Guides if any problems seem near. Police and the military are always present.

I recommend a tour be by a Messianic Christian. Our guide was of the tribe of Naphtali, and was faithful as a witness for Jesus Christ. We covered all the land and all biblical places including Masada. I would like to go again, but the costs are much higher now. We went with Pilgrim's Tour, and you might talk to them about costs and accommodations. We were very well taken care of.

A friend said a mega church that she helps out in does group tours every year so shes going to find out for me.

I asked at the travel agent and they didnt really have anything. Im guessing its really only organised through larger church groups here. The other friend who went worked at the bible college so went with them.

Lol I asked those girls at the mall who were trying to get me into their bible study if theyd ever been to israel and they said no. And then they said they didnt want to go as it was a wartorn country, I said..well no actually people whove been there say its quite safe for tourists.

And those girls were the ones arguing about celebrating passover. Well hello, thats why at the end of passover the jewish ppl say next year in Jerusalem. They apparently didnt know anything about it!
