I assume it was me I'm the only atheist that has responded me dying would send me to hell.

Ah. I hadn't considered that. Well, since Atheists don't believe in Heaven, I assume youre not worried about Hell. Since believing in one would be a prerequisite to believing in the other.

Sorry...missing my husband too much right now...and I work with too many dying people. I should stay away from this thread I guess.
No i'm sorry I have always had problems relating to the emotions of others even the death of loved ones don't bother me overly much so sometimes my humor is rather tasteless I don't mean too It's just that I always make jokes.

What would you do?
What if you didn't know?

Since my friend's passing I have been thinking about this lately and wondered if anyone might have thought the same thing when someone dear to you makes departure for Paradise.

Good question... I tend to think about losing family members quite a bit, but haven't thought as much about what I'd do. I'd start off by thinking of everything I could to to make it easier for my family. I'd go through all of my stuff, put aside money for expenses, etc. I'd write letters and cards they could read when I'm gone. I'd travel to some of places I've always wanted to go or places I'd like to revisit, take my family with me, take tons of pictures. Maybe I'd think of people who helped me during my life and get in touch with some of them to thank them. Stuff like that.

ugh was having conversation with friend today about mutual church member and was talking about how she got cremated, which to me is wrong...(also against scripture for a believer) but then she started talking about wanting to be cremated because of her daughter and not putting the burden on her, thinking just because its expensive that she'd be the only one paying it or wouldn't look after her remains and I was going huh?

You just need to trust the Lord about these things as nobody knows the day nor the hour only our Father in heaven.

You can't go well, I might die all the time and worry worry worry. Its best to be prepared and quietly trust that when the end comes you had done everything the Lord expected and had for your life on earth, forgiven people, provided, been faithful, sowed the seeds of the gospel, etc. You can't worry about money and things that you can't take with you. Or maggots. I'm like the Lord is going to preserve your bones and resurrect us all in the end so why worry about silly things like flesh eating maggots.

She didn't seem convinced and was half expecting me to convince her not to let her body be burned up and ground to a powder, which is what cremation is. A horrible practice.

I just said, nobody is going to burn me up and crush my bones, over my dead body!
I still can't believe some christians would willingly choose cremation for themselves just because it's cheaper. but anyway. That's a morbid thing to think about. If you prepare and you know where you going, then, its settled. Joseph of Arimithea wouldn't let Jesus body be dumped where the other crucified people would go, and Jesus didn't worry about such a thing but trusted in his Father.

I think that's a really difficult question.

On the one hand there are a lot of things I'd like to do and see, but at the same time I think I'd probably be more inclined to do mission work in dangerous areas given the circumstances too.

I think you could do both patrick, as Jesus sent his disciples put into all the world and they deifintiely saw and experienced a lot of things while spreading the gospel. Most of them, save John didnt return to Jerusalem and live to an old age. Most of them were matyred.

I lost my best friend when I was 15. I actually digressed after his passing instead of absolving to make the best of my life and others. I still think about him all the time; however, since the Great Shepherd rounded me back up, I decided I'm not going to waste any opportunities. If I had 2 years left, I would make sure to travel the U.S. sharing God's love along the way. I would also, definitely get a spot on TV show America Ninja Warrior. If I didn't know I was going to die, I'd probably keep the same goals in mind. :bullettrainside:

After my grandparents and father died, I inherited a lot of family heirlooms, documents, and "memorabilia". Some of the most amazing ones are the journals written by my ancestors over the centuries. A lot of it covers day to day life during their lifetimes, their thoughts on events that occurred locally/nationally, things that happened to other members of the family, etc.

Since I received them and began to really read them, I decided to start my own, to be passed down as well. If humanity is still here in a century or two, and the "inheritance" survives, one of my relatives/descendants can read them and gain some insight into the times in which I lived.

my friend who I lost when she was 25 was training to be a teacher, and I end up helping out in schools (even though I didn't train to be a registered one) and carrying on ministry there. She was the most giving person.
I tend to be someone who likes to receive..but then God reminds me that I am actually in a position to be a cheerful giver.

That's pretty awesome, especially the journals. I think it would be interesting to read what my ancestors went through. My family has a few things from my great grandparents, but nothing from anyone beyond that.
