Nor do I, but I have to consciously decide to not judge. To me crying is all about manipulation. It is trying to get some benefit to ME. And that is the epitome of selfishness.
Is it selfishness when everyone cries, or just when you cry?

I don't mind if you say "some" feminists do this, but as a feminist myself, it seems to me that you are flaming me. So perhaps change your wording. Thank you.
So am I not allowed to have my own thoughts and opinions? I thought that was something feminist such as yourself valued?

I think it's quite reasonable to ask you not to defame all feminists. If I were to identify a group of which you were a part and said that that group did something dishonest, you probably wouldn't like it very much. So it's a polite request.

Ah.....I see that as a man with integrity :) (you just described my dear dad). But see? That also is a woman with integrity....correct? And doesn't the Bible have the same characteristics for men and women alike to strive for? That's basically what J. Ehrman said in that video....that at the end of our lives (men and women) are 'measured' by the same standard.
Yes, but one is fueled by estrogen and the other, testosterone.

I sort of understand this (I think---if I'm understanding what you're saying). In my family growing up (coming from my mom)....I never really learned how to share negative news with others (we were taught to be uplifting and upbeat so our company would be enjoyed). When my dad passed away (which was prior to the internet and FB)...I had a difficult time knowing HOW to tell people. If I called someone directly myself, I thought it'd be perceived as reaching out for sympathy and that I'd be ruining their day. Maybe a big part of it is our generation? I'm pleased my daughter's generation seems to be more honest and transparent.

Maybe our hormones play a part in our desire to have opposite gender relationships....but I'm of the belief that it's our heart and mind and our commitment to loving well that plays a part in the rest.

Maybe I should hold classes in enjoying life and showing emotions. Lesson 1: how to scream like a girl on the racetrack. Location: Las Vegas racetrack. What will happen: 3 laps around the track with a slightly insane Latina behind the wheel of an overpowered Mustang. Complete with driver messing with stereo and lighting cigarettes while going 120+ mph

This topic is moving so fast. I'm much more emotional/sensitive then my wife is at times. She can cry, but not as much as I can. A good movie will make me cry for example. Something I rarely see her do. Maybe its just how we were both raised, she didn't have a father so maybe part of her is turned off to crying. Then again I never was much of the stereotype macho man. I always get along with women better then men. Once or twice in my life someone said "Are you sure your not gay?" because of the fact I don't act like most men do. Which is a horrible statement to make to someone. Just because I hate sports, don't talk about sex/women...etc doens't mean I'm not a guy. Also I'm a geeky nerd. Which is common for us not to always be the stereotype man.

@NothingIsImpossible - I get it. My husband is the artist. He is more emotional than I am. I am the one who is logical, solution oriented, doesn't like small talk, sports freak type. My husband didn't like football! We started dating during football season and got a little puzzled when I wouldn't leave the house on Sunday, Monday night or Thursday night. He finally capitulated about a year into our relationship.

ValleyGal, Thank you for such a high compliment!

I am not well versed on feminism but I responded to your questions because you are so articulate and get to the main pints of things.

By VG
The feminists on this thread have agreed numerous times on a definition here and it boils down to full social and economic equality with men.

Now that is what I call boiling it down! I agree with that 100%

We got our puppy (Jaks) in December also and he is 7 months old. He is a Corgi mixed with German Shepard. My wife picked him out at the humane society-Animal Shelter and adopted him. I cannot figure out who my wife is crazier about between Jaks and Stephen Curry. However, I am determined to keep her being crazy about me also!

My wife and I love our dog, basketball games, Stephen Curry, going to Home Depot to get stuff to add to our home, visiting with our children and grandchildren, going out to eat, and watching TV programs together. That keeps me in my wife’s trio of Jaks, Stephen Curry, and me!

@sdmsanjose shepherd/corgi? Interesting mix!

Celebrating tonight...its taken three years and a bunch of setbacks, but my husband is finally back up to his discharge weight after his surgery three years ago. Less than 20lbs to his presurgery weight. Guess my crummy cooking might have had something to do with that

Is it selfishness when everyone cries, or just when you cry?
As I previously said, I try hard to not judge how others express themselves. That can be hard if it seems obvious that crying is being manipulative.

Since I do not cry, that part is moot. But I can say that I work hard to avoid anything that could be construed as selfish or self-promoting.

For both men and women, there is such a thing as emotional intelligence - knowing how to express your emotions appropriately, when and to whom.
